Does anyone know what the actual retail list price is for The Beatles'
stereo remasters box set?

I ask because, although I'm not ready to drop my cash for it, I have
been following its price since it was released, and I've noticed an
interesting trend on Amazon.

Before the set was released, it was listed on Amazon (and elsewhere)
at around $180. Soon after 9/9/9 the Amazon price rose to $190. Today
the price is $221.

What interests me about this is that throughout, Amazon's price has
been around $10 or $20 less than what they list for people selling the
set as used through Amazon. Currently the used price on Amazon is
roughly around $240. In other words, it seems as if Amazon is basing
the price of their new box sets on the hyper-inflated prices people
are attaching to their used sets.

Typically, something that's used sells for way less than its new
counterpart, but somewhere along the line, the stereo box seems to
have gained status as some kind of collectors item, thus allowing
people to second hand them for more than they would be able to
otherwise.

As opposed to the mono box (which I bought early on), the stereo set
was never touted as a limited release, and based on the ready
availability of new copies of other artist's boxed sets, as well as
The Beatles own 1987 wooden box, I have a feeling the 2009 stereo
remasters box will be around for quite some time.

I guess the real question is, who's paying $240 for a used set of what
they could get brand new for less? My guess is that after the holidays
the price is bound to drop.

Dunno what it is in dollars but it's a hundred and sixty nine quid in
the UK.

....and I might *have* to buy it.
