Does anybody know when the Browning BLR started being fitted and sold
with the "Folding Hammer" I have one prduced in 1990 without the
folding hammer but when I call Browning they insist that all BLRs were
produced with folding hammers. I have seen two that were not.

By "folding hammer" I assume you mean exterior hammer. I've got a BLR
over 30 years old, cal .308, with that type hammer.

By "folding Hammer" I mean that the exposed portion of the hammer is
in two connected pieces. When the hammer is in half cock position,
the top of the hammer can be pushed forward and folded down so that if
the hammer releases, it cannot fire the gun. I have a BLR without
this feature and have seen another the same way but a tech at Browning
insists that all BLR rifles have this feature. Browning's website
describes it on the BLR. MY BLR was made in 1990.

My BLR doesn't have a "folding hammer". I've never seen one that does.
I got mine in 1988.

The answer is 1992 - see
http://www.unclemikes.com/fitcharts/hammer_extensions_fc.html

# a tech at Browning

The support tech position at many companies is occupied by the newest,
least experienced employees. He probably was not around in 1992, and
may not have ever seen one of the early models.

Mine does not do that and I've never heard of it but have not followed
developments of the BLR since I bought mine. Maybe its just the way the
tech described it because if hammer is all the way down gun cannot be fired.

Go to Brownings website and take a look at the BLR . I saw one (new)
in a store last week and it had the two piece folding hammer. Thats
what got me started on this.

There's been at least two models they've tagged with "BLR", I keep
seeing "81" and "Belgian". It was introduced in 1971, so there's been
plenty of time to develop what collectors call variations. The first
ones were all steel, the later ones were alloy and steel. Current ones
are labeled MKII, no idea when they started in with those. Take a
magnet to your receiver and see. And Browning's been through enough
corporate changes that I doubt anybody's left that was employed in
Customer Service that whole time. There are collector's books out
there with all that minutia, if you are that interested. I do know
that current mags don't fit older guns, a fellow worker went through a
lot of trouble to find one for his older rifle. They don't have a lot
of parts for the older ones, either.
