NC senator who is a long time gun control advocate shoots two intruders
trying to break into his home.

At least they were really, supposedly, intruders. Not like this gun
nut:

"Police say a Florida man who thought there was an intruder in his
house shot and killed his fiancee the day before they were to get
married."

http://www.wtsp.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=115315&provider=rss

And apparently the propaganda machine that fed you "longtime gun
control advocate" missed this:

"Sen. R.C. Soles, who is under investigation for shooting a man who
Soles said was trying to break into his home, voted in favor of a bill
that would have given residents wide latitude to defend their homes.
Soles was one of 42 senators who voted for the "castle doctrine,"
which essentially states that a resident is justified in shooting an
intruder into his or her home. Under current law, a jury could decide
that a homeowner was not justified if, say, the would-be burglar was
shot running from the house."

Doesn't sound very "longtime" to me.

Foreclosures: 'Worst three months of all time'

Despite signs of broader economic recovery, number of foreclosure filings
hit a record high in the third quarter - a sign the plague is still
spreading.

"PHILADELPHIA — Meleanie Hain of Lebanon, Pa., used to tell the news
media that she carried a Glock 26 pistol everywhere she went to
protect herself and her children. Then last week she was shot to death
by her husband in what police called a murder-suicide.

"For years, researchers have been trying to investigate whether
carrying a gun is protective or risky. But getting the answer through
science has proved elusive. Now, University of Pennsylvania researcher
Charles Branas has tried a new tack — employing methods normally used
by epidemiologists to study cancer and other diseases.

"Branas compared a group of shooting victims to a similar set of
"controls" who had not been shot. His results, he said, show that guns
did not, on average, protect those who possessed them from being shot
in an assault — and in fact raised the risk by four times or more."

"The [California] governor signed a new bill into law on Monday,
October 12. The move is sparking mixed reaction. The new law requires
stores that sell ammunition to keep track of every customer who makes
a purchase. The idea is that local law enforcement can use the
records to find illegal guns. It also requires store owners to keep
hand gun ammunition behind the counter or in some other "safe" place.
A thumbprint will be taken from anyone purchasing bullets and
customers will also have to provide a valid California driver's
license."

Of course....it is perfectly fine to shoot a burglar in the back running
from your house as long as YOU are one of the privalidged few allowed to
own a firearm.
I reckon the good Senator must not have read Tennesse v Garner.

Yeah but whatever you do, don't "lie in wait" to shoot creeps that cut your
phone line, and then break in to steal date rape dope, run away when
confronted, then come back to kill you so that you cant ID him.

If the good Senator had been a Republican, the class A bigot would be out
with pitchforks, torches, nooses and his pointy white hood ready to lynch..

Senator Byrd would be proud.

More bullshit from the Democrats;

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/15/inside-the-ring-2059116/

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/15/troop-funds-diverted-to-pet-projects/
"Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25
million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and
$20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen.
Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

While earmarks are hardly new in Washington, "in 30 years on Capitol Hill, I
never saw Congress mangle the defense budget as badly as this year," said
Winslow Wheeler, a former Senate staffer who worked on defense funding and
oversight for both Republicans and Democrats. He is now a senior fellow at
the Center for Defense Information, an independent research organization.

Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, called the transfer of funds from
Pentagon operations and maintenance "a disgrace."

"The Senate is putting favorable headlines back home above our men and women
fighting on the front lines," he said in a statement.

Mr. Wheeler, who conducted the study, compared the Obama administration's
requests for funds with the $636 billion spending bill that the Senate
passed. He discovered that senators added $2.6 billion in pet projects while
spending $4 billion less than the administration requested for fiscal 2010,
which began Oct. 1.

Mr. Wheeler said that senators took most of the cash for the projects from
the "operations and maintenance" or O&M accounts.

"These are the accounts that pay for troop training, repairs, spares and
supplies for vehicles, weapons, ships and planes, food and fuel," Mr.
Wheeler said. "
