If religion had never developed, how would history have unfolded. How
would technology have developed?

Mostly, patriotism can serve the functions religion has. But
sometimes the two are in competition. Where God and Country have
different power structures, neither is quite as powerful and the
people can benefit. The Renaissance was a time of great
advancement, partially because of this power struggle.

I'm less optimistic. Obsessive, ranting people can always find a new
subject to be ranting obsessively about, even if it's King Charles' Head.

Better. Far fewer wars and pogroms and more time to think about practical
things and no silly buggers saying that technological advances are
witchcraft or the work of the devil!

True Believers don't need religion to decide that new stuff is wrong.
Or racism is right or to use magic words such as "socialism" and
"fascist" without any real meaning.

Why would lack of religion imply incuriosity or unimaginitivity?

Because religion happens when people ask questions about why and how
things work and imagine answers for them.

But (every religion but mine) happens when people answer questions
about why and how things work - which are wrong.

What is your religion?

Heaven nose!

Do you believe in shades?

Not on the nekkid ladies in photos on other groups. Not being able to see
their eyes is a real turn-off!

To a Vegetarian crab, they'd be a real turn-nip!

Yes, to protect me from the sun.

Can you get them that big? Must look hilariously funny and be very expensive

too - especially the Hĉmorrhoid ones!

I was using that as a generic belief, not mine personally. I'm an
atheist.

I used to be an atheist but I've stopped believing in that now!

That was as realistic as the rest of his science.

LOL!

I went to a launch event for Windoze 7 a couple of days ago at PC World and
got talking to one of Windoze's reps. Every time I tried to ask whether a
bug in Vista had been got rid of in Windoze 7, he very quickly changed the
subject and steered me back to the silly unnecessary graphics so-called
enhancements (gimmicks!) on the screen! Draw your own conclusions.

He expected me, like all the other poor saps there, to buy 7 on the spot!
I'll give it a few months at least and see what happens.

Better the big pile of stinking irritating shit that you know!
