Surely if you were to show up for a challenge, the master would accept? |

Who knows? Call ahead and find out. Don't just show up at looking for
a fight. Wrong venue. Showing up at a Chi Kung workshop looking for a
fight just shows ignorance. It's a lot like showing up at a Bas Ruten
weightlifting seminar asking him to fight you. It's just weight
lifting - get over it.
That being said, the "opportunity" exists, and if it was executed
properly with the right calls and conversations I'm sure something
would happen. Don't expect a full video crew and weekly youtube
series, however. If that was going to happen it would have happened
long ago. Just go satisfy your own curiosity. And THAT being said, if
the people who have been commenting on this thread aren't planning to
go, what's the point? Go and figure it out, see for yourself. Yes we
all know Bill ALMOST met with someone, or someone else ALMOST met with
someone else, but I'd like a story or two that had something real to
it instead of just providing a platform for speculation.
FWIW I'd again agree to financially back any such meeting, provided it
actually goes through this time (no paying for tickets if someone
backs out this time). You know, as long as everything is aboveboard.

It won't happen. MMA guy beats up Tai Chi guy......news at 6pm, dog
bites man etc.
Unless of course Bill is asked to do it on a beach, running at the Chen
guy...but who'd be dumb enough to do *that*, eh?

Well, if you really believe that every so-called "traditional" martial
art is just like .. jeez who were those guys.. Yellow Bamboo.. yeah,
if you really believe that's all that traditional arts have to offer,
I say sure - I personally have no vested interest in proving anyone
wrong anymore. If you go for it, or don't, it's your concern. But
yeah, if you really think theyre all just like Yellow Bamboo.. that
would be pretty funny heh.

Advice for Ollie:
1) Check Irony-Meter
2) Replace batteries in Sarcasmometer
3) Top-up/refill Rube lines
3) Disengage Kata drive
or consider trading in your Chen-mobile for a MMA pickup (with
Rickson-by-armbar body-kit).

Sure, it's honest. It puts you on the line for what you keep saying
about me, in that it exposes it as being untrue.
No it's not.
Then go ahead and tell us all what you think I believe.
Tut tut, such disingenous replies will get you nowhere. You tell ME
whether chi is a force or not.
Sorry Peter, I'm just tired of telling you what I think, and then you
telling me that I think something different.
Quote: He didn't discover any goblins either, so would you like a cite about
that, too? Feynman made it abundantly clear what he thought about psuedo
science, of which chi is undoubtedly a member.
See there you go again. You don't know what Chi is. You use your lack
of information to fuel a speculation that it does not exist. It's not
logical and I'm not even going to attempt to cure the insane on this
one.
Quote: Now you may hold a different view (viz my
first comment) in which case you may care to explain why you think 'chi
as force' is NOT correct.
I may care. Actually I do, to a degree. I even wrote a FAQ about it.
Then if you DO believe that chi is a force,
Non sequitur.
Do you actually know what that means? Apparently not.
It means the conclusion, in this case the premise, you stated, has
nothing to do (does not follow) with what was said. I said I wrote a
FAQ about Chi. You then said "Then if you DO believe that chi is a
force..." which does not at all follow from what I said. You're just
interested in lecturing me. Whatever.
Quote: I think this is boiling down to something very simple; not only do you
believe in something for which there is no proof, you can't even
identify what it is you believe in.
Keep guessing.

Hi Mike
I'm inclined to be believe that Tai Chi could provide some modicum of benefit
to one's health, in the same way that waving one's arms around would, or
standing one leg. I remain unconvinced of its efficacy as a martial art,
beyond the efficiency one might gain from, say, waving one's arms around
would, or standing one leg.
When I did Tai Chi I felt warm all over and very relaxed when I finished.
Kinda like when I spend time with Wannabes mum.

Here's a link with several. I happen to have met one of the authors
who is an assistant professor from Tufts Medical School.
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00515008
You can find a lot more from there.
Also, there actually IS research going on to find out whether Tai Chi
is or is not better than standing around waving your arms around. If
you want specifics of that look up Peter Wayne.
Harvard Medical School and Tufts and others have ongoing research into
the health effects of Tai Chi. Just have to google the right way. :)
