little-discussed) risk? Thanks.

I've not seen this problem in Judo. Every new student gets a handout with
rules about keeping the gi clean and stuff. The instructor (Yoshida
Sensei) and the assistant ("Coach" Dave Sensei) frequently give "wash your
gi and take a bath" lectures after class during the summer, usually
targeted at the teen boys.

Decent BJJ schools, indeed *ANY* MA school would be the same.

Or even worse - the possibility that the guy who's bleeding all over you

WELL SINCE U ASKED, YES YOU ARE BEING A FAG.
I have showers at my gym and, we have a rule, if you have something
its your fault, not the guy who gave it to you, he only did cause you
didnt clean right.
if you had youd have nothing.
I believe in the last 15 years rolling i got ringworm once...maybe
twice...but no more.
cause i shower right aftre rolling(if thers no showers at your gym you
really gotta quit, its ridiculous) before the sweat dries and i cover
every inch of my body with soap, just very quickly ionce over the
whole deal...do this and youll never get snything.
some people,m some gyms are always covred in everything.its unreal how
some people just figure having shit living on you your whole life is
ok.
i dont flake from any iof tyhe skin shit, no big deal, but the
attitude some have where they just accept it as something that comes
with grappling sickens me.
it DOESNT come with grappling.it comes with being an unsanitary pig.
i take immunosupressant drugs orally and thru infusion and i never
ever get anything.
EVER.
Well cept once i spent weeks in the ICU with psudemonas in my
bloodstream.

theres a school near me, big gym, trains up to world class guys, they
come in my school to roll and they look like vets returning from the
civil war like bandages on their heads bandaids all over them.
last week ones here im like "so the wraps all over your arms..thats
worm?" hes like "no, thats staph...the worms mostly on my back and
head"
they are all always festering in shit, i go over the mat when one
leaves , i just dont get how their wives parents girlsfriends deal
with it, some ahev permanant scars and they just think nothing of
having gross skin issues.
but my school may have a case her and ther but never is there a
breakout like the gyms coverd in it, thers just a few guys who
occasionally get something and they say "but i cleaned hard i swear i
must be just prone to it"
but theyre lying.
everyone that gets it fucked up.
one guy didnt know what he lept getting it cause he showred here then
i see him leaving and hes putting the sweaty shorts he rolled in back
one, another guys like "i live two blcoks away i shower quicker if i
driove home and do it than if i wait to shower here"
so he kepty geting it...why? cause he shirtless in his car getting 5
pounds of sweat in his car seat because he rushes home to shower right
aftre he rolls, he convince him to shower here bam..never gets it.
i dont even care if i roll on a mat covered in it, cauyse if i scrub
right aftre i never get anything, no one does.
its impossible.

That is why smart people avoid no-gi, imo. But even then, smelly
people are not really all that awesome.

correction.
people avoid no gi cause theyre scared of other stronger more athletic
people throwing them around and humiliating them.
they just use the ringworm thing as part of the rationalization they
use on themselves to convince themselves they arent scared.

Are you SURE this is your reason? Maybe you need to go to your local
drugstore and buy a little bottle of HTFU, which will fix the problem
for you, guaranteed.

You're probably right. I can be quite neurotic at times.

I'm not expecting a full contact MA where people wear hazmat suits and
everything is guaranteed Intel clean room fresh but I'm reminded of an
acquaintance of mine who caught scabies at his Judo school last year.

If someone has a skanky gi and/or obviously has no sense of personal
hygiene, I simply won't roll with them, and I'll tell them why if they ask.

Most good grapplers are acutely aware of these issues and come to the
mat clean and healthy.

not my expericne.
id say alot are, alot arent, i could name ufc fighters always covered
in the shit and who dont really care.

But being smelly doesn't necessarily mean unclean.

When I was wrestling competitively, there used to be one Lebanese guy
who always turned up to comps reeking of garlic like you simply would
not believe; it seemed to ooze from every pore, his sweat was like
garlic-oil.

It was so distracting, I lost to him the first time we met due to sheer
smell-shock....well, that's my story anyways, and I'm stickin' to it ;>)

3 months ago, a chick showed up in my judo
club, she stank of..... excrement. Human excrement.
In her pants, I presume.

I was paired with her, for ne-waza.  Anybody
here ever faced this situation?  How to deal with it?

i have known some guys who often smelled of shit.
always wondered why, and can thing of no possible reason other than
they just never learned to wipe carefully.

It's especially shocking, that it was a girl, they
are normally obsessed with cleanliness, and
odor.  But she's Italian, Italy-Italian, not Italian-
American, so maybe it's a euro thing...

one girl used to be at my gym would come in just REEKING of cigarette
smoke, and to me that is worse than shit, no egxageration..i mean it
literrally..i prefer the smell of shit.
anyways she one day was telling me how she gave up smoking years ago,
and it was like the 20th time and im like "pleade dont lie, no
offense, but obviously i nknow if youve snoked recently, you reek of
it"
she denied it a few days later said she really quit..i smelled her and
was like "nope" she denied a few days later admitted she had lied now
she said shed really quit, she had i could tell...she was amazed i
could smell it ever cause shed smoke like one time a day and use tons
of moythwash.
which dont matter cause its in the lungs.
and smoking once a day is like diping in a cesspool once a day..it can
still be smelled.
very very easily.
i can smell when someone walked thru a room people were smoking in.
anyways, yes this girl was pissed for a bit,
bitches hate beiong told they stink.and maybe less do than dudes, but
many still do.

Let me tell ya, she was awesome... imprinted
forever in my memory.

It only happens if it gets tolerated. Most folk get their personal
hygiene stuff from parents and school, and if that was deficient, it
gets played out elsewhere in life.

what most missed about the fight was the source of danas anger at roy.
ALL shows make it clear in subtle ways that they want you to stand,
they tried to get roy to stand he wouldnt, so they were mad...but i
digress.

Then they should have put bo in there with a guy who wanted to stand.
Zuffa owns all these people and they have to do what they want.

I've seen Nelson fight half a dozen times, this was the same MO. He's
not and never will be a standup banger. The guy does that particular
takedown and smashes people and hits them.
