1 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs $30,304,648 3,119 $9,716 $30,304,648
6 2 9 $5,563,134 -48.2% 2,060 +399 $2,701 $22,918,077

28 24 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs $279,016 -25.6% 293 -60 $952 $195,028,506
35 21 Ponyo $188,536 -70.0% 329 -260 $573 $14,656,787
87 92 Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone $6,572 +122.0% 4 +2 $1,643 $35,404

119 110 $9.99 $538 -9.9% 3 $179 $47,638

As expected, "Cloudy" premiered on the top spot, which a boxoffice that's
big for September, but small compared to the #1 debuts of other mainstream
feature animations, what with kids being in school. "Cloudy" has performed
very well with critics, with an 84% rating.

I think the legs of this movie will be strong.

Not so strong has been "9". "9" added theaters, but the boxoffice still
fell by nearly 50%. Then again, it only cost $30M according to Box Office
Mojo.

"Ponyo" lost nearly half its theaters this week, leading to a huge
boxoffice drop.

I think the legs of this movie will be strong.

Especially in September. (As in, with nothing else opening.)

Me, I had to walk out early after forty-five minutes to meet somebody,
and BOY, was I ready to. >_<
It wants to follow the huggy-Pixar lead as an industry safety net, but
it's stuck in gag-spirited attention-deficit Sony-slacker humor that
would rather have everything whipping, jabbering and pop-reffing about
at "Human fly" speed...
And seeing the inventor plot, my impression of the movie was "What if
David 'Chicken Little' Stainton had *stayed* on 'Meet the Robinsons',
and John Lasseter hadn't been there to fix the peanut-allergy gags?"

Derek Janssen (although Newscaster Who Looks Sorta Like The Girl From
Monsters Vs. Aliens was cute, until they tried pasting a safety-net
moral lesson on *her*, too)

The ads for it just look awfu to me. Okay, food falls on you. Is there
anything else to the story?

(Oops, strike that--
Forgot that most 3-D plexes have only *one* functioning Real-3D screen,
which Buzz & Woody are about to co-opt in one week's time...Well, enjoy
it now, Sony, eviction day's coming.) :)

Yes: The inventor wants to live up to his dad (like in Ratatouille),
and the newscaster thinks she has to hide the fact that she's smart
after all (like in Shrek).
Oh, yeah, and think the mayor has some world-domination thing going
on--I don't know, I didn't stay long enough to see if any of the *other*
characters had artificial Messages for the studio to try and find a
huggy back-door escape.

And for the record, the original picture book WAS about food falling on
you (and nothing else, but what do you expect from a 24pp. kids' picture
book?)--
But while Judi & Ron Barrett whimsically dropped the food on their young
readers, this one slings it at you like a bored slacker
college-cafeteria food-fight.
