What's so shameful about losing to Sri Lanka? Or on home ground for
that matter? Surely match practice (or lack thereof) was a bigger
factor here..

A supposedly No.1 team does not look for excuses especially in a big
tournament like Champions Trophy.

Don

There was no "supposedly" about it. They were categorically the #1
team when the match started.

A #1 team is supposed to put up a better performance than last night
be it their first match of season or not.

Besides, South Africa have historically choked after looking
invincible right up till the point where they choked.

Yesterday it was first match not the final.

By the way, India are going to have all sorts of trouble qualifying..

Care to elaborate?

India do not have 3 of their best players in VS, GG and now YS. If SRT
does not fire India will crash and burn. In fact after YS's departure
I'm 90% sure that India will lose to both Pak and Aus. It's bad luck
more than anything else, but India's bench strength doesn't look that
great.

They didn't have VS and GG in SL, yet won the tournament finals which
was always jinxed for them in past several years. Don't understimate
the bench strength of India. I am sure they will thrash Pakistan and
West Indies.

So do you think it will be shameful if India (new #1 team, congrats!)
lose to the #5 team by around 50 runs?

I was talking about a full strength South African team losing
shamefully to an okay okay SL side.

RSA were not full strength without Gibbs.
"okay okay"? Really? How do you compare the current SL side to the
1996 WC-winning side, man for man? I'm assuming you consider that side
a little bit better than "okay okay".
