I still love this show. But it's interesting to see how some otherwise
savvy dealers can be so clueless on some really obvious things. Sunday
they actually needed to research what the value was for some playboys
from the late 60s-early 70s (anyone who knows anything about the
collectibles business knows they're worth next to nothing); and they
paid $75 for a box of near worthless yard sale comic books.

But they win in several ways:

If the original owner comes in and keeps paying the usury
(interest), they win.

If the original owner repays the debt plus interest, they win.

If the original owner defaults, they've got 100-200 comics
in a box for $75 and can let other people paw through them
for $2-$5 each.

In all of the above cases, the item came in the door and
someone pays them to take it off their hands.

Kris

They were buying them outright, though, not loaning on them.

The funny thing was, the box of comics already had like a 50 cent yard
sale price listed on it, so it was probably cherry picked before the
seller even brought it in. And what I saw looked like 25 cent stuff down
at the local comic shop

As to the playboys, they're basically nonsellable. I know some smut
dealers who specialize in men's mags, and they've noted the "tame" stuff
from that era no longer sells for even modest prices, and even the 50s
stuff that used to go for decent money now sits. (Ecluding MM's playboy
issue)

Apparently, they're not decadent enough these days to garner interest
from people who buy smut

Wow, you knew something more than some guy on TV about one certain
thing.

If I were you I'd sell everything and head to Hollywood. They
obviously need a man of your caliber.

Send us a postcard when you get work.

Hey Ronnie,

Listening to the Popes sing "Irish Rover" even as we speak. Funny how
folk have not adapted to technology, isn't it?

Where is that book, hang on a second, "The Great Irish Potato Famine"
by Canon John O'Rourke. Ronnie, is this stuff true?

Jesus.

There is a joke here but I am leaving it alone. Jesus. One day I will
tell you the story of the Irish who immigrated to Arizona and faced
hell itself. You should see the photos. Hell itself.
