Single-Bolt Foot - Without The Disc?...

Got a new board with pretty thick soft stuff on the deck around
where a single-bolt foot screws in.

Using the supplied plastic disc, I can just barely get the thing
screwed in - and I'm not sure that I've engaged the minimum
needed number of threads.

Without the disc, no problem.

Seems to me like the only function of the disc is to act as a
lubricant for screwing in the foot on a glass deck - and going
without it on the soft deck is no problem.

Am I missing anything?

Pete, I would think the disk helps disperse the load. How about
cutting the soft stuff out of the way with a razor blade as I don't
think you will need it at the mast base. It's always amazed me how
much weight little tiny thread can hold.

How about replacing the bolt with a little longer one?

Hi Pete,

I've done this often and have never had a problem. You'll be fine
without the disk.

Pete: I've found the problem to be the nut dropping to the bottom of
the slot when you have to undo it to get the base on. Make a nut
lifter by unbending one leg of a paperclip 90 degs, take the nut off
the base, position it in the slot, center the disk over the nut, lift
the nut to the top of the slot with the paperclip, and thread on the
base. Once started, the deck padding compresses enough to fully engage
the nut

Are you using the brass "T" nut or the flat regular type.
You need the T nut with the EVA to overcome the added thickness.....

Oh, Ok. I've used my single bolt Streamline base on lots of EVA
boards, [ it has 2 "arms" and no disc ]. It does kinda rub on the EVA
as it tightens but it never caused any lasting damage. Funny, I often
thought of getting a plastic disc to go under it.

Pete,
Starboard uses a regular mast track, with two Tee nuts that are held in
place with foam spacers. At least that's the case with my 2008 12'6" and
11'2" boards.
Just make sure your single bolt has the metric screw and not the older 1/4"
x 20
