"Ponyo" may not be in the Top 10 anymore, but it has indeed been showing
the strong legs I had been hoping for from the excellent reviews. The
boxoffice fell by only about 30% last week, and only 20% this week. The movie
has now passed the U.S. Boxoffice of "Digimon: the Movie" (YES!  , and
also "Spirited Away". I think "Ponyo" has a shot at the $15M mark.
Heh, I thought "Ponyo" would disappear from my Greenville, SC, multiplex
after one week, but it's still around, playing all day. I doubt that Disney
has covered every market with 900 theaters, though. Disney should consider
opening the film in new markets.
It appears that Dreamworks is no longer reporting the boxoffice for
"Monsters vs. Aliens". So this movie has apparently ended its domestic run
with a boxoffice of $198,351,526. In spite of a $60M opening weekend, the
$200M mark was elusive. MvA matched its domestic performance with a foreign
performance of $181,530,493.
