A while back I had discovered a great new thinking board game called
InfiniTTT or Infinite Tic Tac Toe. This is essentially Tic Tac Toe
played on a near infinite grid. 5 in a row wins. The maxim - "A minute
to learn. A lifetime to master" is really true for this game. Actually
it should
take less than a minute to learn since we all know how to play the
classic tic tac toe. I later discovered that this is the same as the
ancient Chinese game called Gomoku for which strategies have been
researched. Apparently player 1 has significant advantage with best
strategy. The game was available for download but then the site
disappeared. I found that the game is now available for purchase from
http://flexepayment.com/product_listing.html for $10 only. You will
need to search for Infinittt on that page.
The computer can play at 3 different levels. I don't think it plays
perfect strategy even at Master level because I did manage to beat it
once at that level after several days of practise. But the fact the
the computer is beatable is what makes it fun to play. Its quite
addictive actually. Each game lasted less than 5 minutes but I ended
up playing several. Great to while away the time while waiting for the
flight to board.

If you play straight five-in-a-row with no restrictions on moves,
the first player can always win. This has been known for a long time,
and thus the game "renju" evolved, which places restrictions on the
opening as well as forbids certain moves to the first player, in order
to make things even.
