Here are the highlights from the five (5) Scrabble games played
last night, Wednesday, August 26 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club
(Delaware).
Scrabble II is spiritually-pure Scrabble. The few, small, natural
rule fixes pull the game into the realm of much longer words. It does
not allow for phony words. In our club, we use a conventional
dictionary, the American Heritage. Scrabble II is more intelligent,
challenging, and sophisticated than modern American tournament-style
Scrabble in every way. Heck, over 40% of the oddball plays on
championship boards wouldn't even be allowed in our club. See:

Last night we averaged 29.7 points per turn as a group. I got burned
on CLOTTER. Elsie passed a turn hoping for someone to play an A
because she only needed a fourth - she had JACARAND in her rack! (The
A never came.)
Tile oddities: one game had 4 blanks; one game had 11T; one game had
only 84% of the expected number of vowels. Every game is fresh and
different!
There was a bit of discussion here about Scrabble II recently. Join
the fun! Hit me with your best shot! Tell me in five thousand words
or less how much more intelligent Scrabble is just looking around for
colored squares to plunk your little two- and three-letter words on.
