When I pedal up a hill in my MTB, I could pedal faster and end up less tired
if I stand and pedal at a leisurely cadence of about 30 in a tall gear. The
best thing about this is lactic acid doesn't seem to build up in my quads.
If I sit and pedal at a faster cadence in a lower gear, my quads started to
burn a quarter way up the hill. By the time I finished (less than 5
minutes), my quads are so tired I almost have trouble walking.
But yet I read that spinning at a faster cadence is more efficient and less
stressful to the body and the bike. So why am I not feeling the efficiency?
The hill is 0.9 mile long. Half the hill is steep (30 degree) and the rest
varies from 5 to 10 degree. |
