making a lilac tree a Bonsai...

I have a one gallon potted lilac tree and wonder if I could bonsai it? I
did find a flowering korean lilac that was set for bonsai (well, it was
in the starter's section) so I wondered if a regular lilac could be
done the same? And if so, how do I do this?
