Anybody know anything?
Just checking the web - there are antiques stores but all the art
galleries just seem to be selling living artists. Surely someone's
selling the dead guys.
Good antiques stores?
Anything?
Bueller? Bueller?

My friend said it was "touristy", like Savannah. Look to the
source, grasshopper. Inland.

That's so logical it's likely correct.
Thanks,

Well, Jesus, I really am a ghost these days. Talking to the walls.
Lots of Imari, not too much early American furniture for sale. Not at
all. Victorian stuff.
Dave's (Dave the Slave, as seen on The Antiques Road Show ) stuff at
the museum? They didn't have a lot out for us to see. Like 12 pieces.
They are supposed to have the biggest collection in America but they
didn't have it out.
By the way, I had the best date. Pretty wonderful.
The historical tours of houses (which I did not want to attend) were
great. Turns out that the Federal style (as we would call it) was
invented by the Adams brothers in Scotland. Lots of Rose Medallion, of
course. Did not see a single tea caddy. What's up with that?
The view of the city from the sea was so pretty, really. The fireworks
on the 4th were fine too.
So, that's my report. The carriage tour and the schooner? Spend the
money, they're great. The food? With the exception of New Orleans I
have never had better food in my life and I am kind of a snob about
these things. Freaking wonderful. Time after time, great food. Even
the stupid pirate theme restaurant was good. Seriously.

T, so glad you loved Charleston. I live just 90 miles from Charleston
and my son lives there. As a south Carolinian, I am proud of our
city. I would have answered you sooner but I have been trying to
think just where there are good antiques stores and have been coming
up blank with names and/or directions. I haven't been "antiquing" in
Charleston since my daughter moved from there several years ago. that
said, there was a junky type in Mt. Pleasant that sometimes had a few
good things. It was in one of the older malls near Wings. There were
several on Hwy 17 going out of town to the south not towards Myrtle
Beach. One was a high end shop packed to the rafters with things
mostly from England. I understood that it catered to people trying to
make their houses "period." I always though it was a front for the
Mafia since their prices were through the roof and no one in there
seemed very interested in selling you anything. When you went in,
they handed you a she if of pages with the number, name of the item
and the price--from there you were on your own. they always had a few
pieces or good glass which I loved but it was always priced higher
than I though it was worth.
I have a friend who happens to be an Episcopal priest who believes
that when you die, if you have been very, very good you go to
Charleston.

Sorry, T -- I've been on and off and spotty and not. Had a

I wouldn't make sense if I tried.
