Perhaps Vettori would like to explain how his own bowlers were doing
it:)
"I was commentating the game, and we were noting on air that some of
the New Zealand bowlers were getting it to go a little bit reverse
when they were bowling full towards the end of their innings. Gul was
the best bowler at the last World Twenty20 and it's pretty
disappointing for New Zealand to have made an unofficial approach. It
seems Pakistan carry the cross for these kinds of things."

England reversed the ball in their game and Zaheer was reversing
against the Australians (in the test match) in the seventh over.
This is exactly why Inzamam's stand was so important. Yes technically
he should have strode out to play under protest but it would have only
reinforced the kind of thinking that Vettori and Hair displayed. It
would have reinforced ICCs idiotic stance on appointing Hair
consecutively to five Pakistani seris (where they could. They could'nt
do it in Sri Lanka). The MCC upheld its own idiotic rule and Tony
Lewis's band played on.
The ball again was in decent condition. No cameras have as of yet seen
anything. What Vettori did with inuendo Hair did through rumor, heresy
and insinuation except he also abused the power vested in him. It was
against the spirit of being a neutral umpire and whether written or
not against the spirit of the game. He let his biases interfere with
his on field decisions beyond reason or reasonability.
Younis's statement problems continued; Vettori did not embarrass
Pakistan or Gul. He embarrassed himself in the tradition of Jeremy
Coney who once remarked on a decision he did not see with much favor
that when Pakistan visit for a return series New Zealand would take
revenge through umpiring. Followed by a catch in the first slip that
was turned down by the Umpire in the return series leaving the
Pakistani fielders incensed. Miandad, who was the captain for that
series, went around calming the players down and made no complaints as
the match went on. And today Miandad would probably have a more
sullied reputation than Coney in these matters:) Perhaps some
"journalists" should have asked Vettori, "How your bowlers are doing
it?" Younis has had too concilliatory a tone and almost sounds as if
indifferent. It is only after there are noises about his statements
from other quarters that he tries a more sober answer. |
