My son and I hunt a 35 acre piece of land we own near Jackson. The
best place for a food plot is at the back, but is visible from the
road and from a neighbor's home. The neighbor hasn't shot on it, as
far as we know. We planted a bag of feed corn in a 15' strip across
the sides toward the road and the neighbor. If it comes up well (it
is about 15" now and growing) it should screen the plot and draw deer
from the woods to the corn across the shielded side of the plot.
Maximum rangr from the stand would be 50 yds. We hunt the plot with a
crossbow.
We did not plant beans among the corn this time. We may next time.
We are not sure it would work to broadcast them into the growing corn
and were not sure about comparative growth rates if we planted them
together.
Any other crops folks would suggest for future plantings?

Oats and winter wheat are a popular choice in north east Texas.
I think it will depend on what grows well in your area.

Here in Minnesota, we can't keep the whitetails out of cabbage, rutabagas or
pumpkin patches.
They *really* love sugar beets too. |

We did sorghum one time. It worked well. Thanks for the reminder.
