They shoot horses, don't they ~ ?
So, like, here's an honest moment ...
I walking up First Avenue, aka, Bellevue Hospital et al hospital and
shelter row today, after my shower at the public bath.
And I pass a homeless man, stanind rather erect, eg, not slouched, or
titling, who looked in really bad shape; near what I felt, but
hopefully, after my shower, did not show, in its entirely.
My thoughts are in short hand these days, eg, low electrical power.
& I thought to myself, "O dear; they should just put him down, in the
biblical sense."
& I immediately thought, Gee, I hope he is one of those law
enforcement undercover guys, with a halloween-type dental disguise;
surely, he could not live and breathe with that."
& my thoughts has some basis in Reality; because that area of town is
"staked out" by undercovers.

Yes we might like to think that every broken down derelict man is a
police undercover agent with a loving wife and family to go home to
every night. We might like to think that every bag lady is really a
police woman with a warm bed waiting for her at home. We might like
to think that you and I are just Internet phonies, who really have
comfortable places to live in and enjoy. I might like to think that
the Asian lady likes to come out and sleeps in the food court every
night just because she thinks it's fun. But alas, such thinking only
masks the face of a much crueler reality!

"Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a 1971 children's book by Robert
C. O'Brien. Illustrated by Zena Bernstein, it won the 1972 Newbery
Medal. A film adaptation, The Secret of NIMH, was released in 1982.
The novel relates the plight of a widowed field mouse, Mrs. Frisby,
who seeks the aid of a group of former laboratory rats in rescuing her
home from destruction by a farmer's plow, and of the history of the
rats' escape from the laboratory and development of a literate and
technological society.
The work was inspired by the research of Dr. John B. Calhoun on mice
and rat population dynamics at the National Institute of Mental
Health."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Frisby_and_the_Rats_of_NIMH

The Homeless Animals Thank You
By Kathy Lehr
Cincinnati.com
November 19, 2009
“The homeless and unwanted animals in the county thank you for your
generosity,” said Clermont County Humane Society President Molly
Geise. “Over 240 people attended the annual dinner and auction that
raised over $20,000 for the Clermont County Humane Society.” The
November 7, 2009 fundraiser was held at the Norlyn Manor in Batavia
Township; the silent and live auctions featured over 300 items
including original artwork, deluxe vacation accommodations, and
Cincinnati Bengals signed items.
“We are indebted to all the wonderful people who continue to support
this auction and the Humane Society, through their donations,
attendance, and behind the scenes efforts,” said Geise.
“Unfortunately, adoption fees alone do not generate enough revenue to
cover the expenses needed to care for our animals. Fundraising events,
such as this auction, help us offset that deficit.”
“The number of animals received to date is down from last year and
that is a good thing,” said Clermont Animal Shelter Director Kim
Naegel, “However, many people are telling us they have had to relocate
as a result of the economy and cannot take their pets with them.
Sadly, the number of adoptions has decreased since last year. We have
some wonderful animals here that would make fabulous additions to many
households.”

Dogs take flight to New York City, for Thanksgiving Feast
CHICAGO, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Some 50 homeless dogs were flown to New York
Friday after a stopover in Chicago for a special Thanksgiving feast,
an animal rights group said.
The canine visitors were on a layover on a trip from Missouri to New
York to find new homes when they were taken to DoGone Fun for a
special dinner, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
At the shelter, the visitors feasted on canned turkey with potatoes
and carrots, duck and sweet potatoes and bagged meals of pheasant,
Twenty of the dogs were rescued from puppy mills and the rest came
from a shelter in Joplin, Mo., the Best Friends Animal Society of Utah
said.
Pet Airways provided their first class transportation to New York
while Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Co. donated the chow for the
Thanksgiving dinner.
Other groups, including the Progressive Animal Welfare Society,
contributed chewy pigskin chips, dog snacks and toys for the visitors.
