Refugee – A musical by playwright Marc Joseph. Directed by Yamit
Geiger Lemoine

Marc Joseph’s “Refugee” is a hip-hop flavored play with song & dance
interludes about flrring home in search of freedom & adadptation to a
strange new land called Miami. A “Miami Made” Carnival Centre
commission, Refugee is a stirring tale about Ludovic, a singer of
protest songs who escapes the political oppression of his native
Haiti, only to find indifference, confusion, hostility, loneliness &
finally success on US shores. It’s a personal story that Joseph
himself has lived, & one many Americans call their own.

Brendan O’Hara makes music that’s meant to move the masses. Whether
it’s out of their seats and on to the dance floor or into the streets
to stand up for things worth fighting for. Movement is, and will
always be, what it’s all about. A versatile singer/songwriter, Brendan
beat boxes, plays the piano, guitar, harmonica, percussion, and even
mimics a pretty good trumpet while delivering cleverly calculated
lyrics and simple honest hymns. His vocal approach is soulful yet
straightforward and at times spoken with spitfire articulation.
Borrowing from many genres- jazz, blues, folk-rock, and hip-hop,
Brendan has amalgamated a style all his own, original yet familiar.
Brendan says in his latest e-newsletter: "Friends, i know, now may be
the time for political emails, fannie mae cover-up discoveries, and
the end is near fear...that has become so pervasive... I'd Like to
offer you something different.

Love.

I'd like to share that love at each and everyone of my up coming
shows! (and there are quite a few)...
Be well. and of course, love.
Peace.

2nd Annual Stand Up Against Poverty Concert with the ONE Campaign
Miami
Last year's Stand Up Event was a great success and this year's
promises to be even better. This year ONE Miami is partnering with
CARE, Results and Oxfam to honor the
International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Local celebrities,
politicians, and the people of South Florida will gather at Bongos
Cuban Cafe above the Miami Airlines Arena to enjoy music & food, meet
with organizations who do work to help people who live on less than $1
and $2 a day, and display to the country and the world that we will
not sit down in the face of extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS. This year,
once again, we will STAND UP! October 16th will be a momentous event
in the course of Miami's stance against poverty. We expect media,
politicians, and artists to help in the movement.
But we need your help. We are looking for volunteers to come help us
set up on the day of the concert, as well as help with the general
running of the event.
There will be a barbeque on Sunday, October 5th, for all volunteers to
meet face to face to discuss our game plan. Meet us at the pool in
the back! If you are able to go, please send your RSVP to Danielle at
danielledepas at (no spam) hotmail.com. To those volunteers who were influential
in making last year's event an achievement, and to those who would
like to join in the success of this year's, we would like you to
attend.
Join us at the Pre-Concert Volunteer Barbeque on Sunday, October 5th.
Volunteer Barbeque on Sunday, October 5th, 3 PM
***Please RSVP to danielledepas at (no spam) hotmail.com
***Volunteers are expected to arrive at 2:30. The concert will be from
8 to midnight.
Volunteer duties include various tabling activities, decorating and
breaking down, networking, assistance to entertainment and VIPs, and
etc… No experience necessary to volunteer. Come to the BBQ to find
out more detailed information about what is needed of the volunteers.

Peace.
-B"

"Zeke" Volker will add a solo performance
NY Times: "This group could only come from New Orleans. Since its
earliest settlement, the city developed a rich musical heritage that
gave birth to 20th century American music. Musicians from this region
were the first to incorporate African rhythms with Western melody.
Beginning with culture-blending jam sessions at Congo Square, this
musical tableau unfurled in the hands of artists such as JellyRoll
Morton, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, Earl King,
The Meters, Dr. John and others too numerous to mention. These acts
provided great inspiration for the Radiators."
