Both Bushes, Carter, Clinton and Gore were runners.
I recall only the younger Bush and Gore finished marathons.
Its a quick way to obtain your required daily exercise if you
are a busy professional.

Mike Huckabee, Governor of Arkansas, Little Rock Marathon 2005 (4:39:04)

George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States, Houston Marathon
1993 (3:44:52)

John Edwards, Former United States Senator, Marine Corps Marathon 1983
(3:30:18)

Bill Frist, Former United States Senate Majority Leader, Marine Corps
Marathon 1997 (4:54:36)

Al Gore, Vice President of the United States at the time, Marine Corps
Marathon 1997 (4:58:25)

Tom Vilsack, Governor of Iowa, Little Rock Marathon 2005 (5:28:39)

Hmmm, nothing in the past three years, and all of them, including Palin,
apparently a checklist item.

Go figure, the top finisher's word record 1:56:31(!!!) performance is not
talked about anywhere while Gebrselassie and Wanjiru get all the attention.

Former Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis ran the Boston Marathon as
a high school kid in 3:31 in 1951 when there were 191 entrants!

And he finished 57/191, by the way.

She picked what I believe is the flattest of the AK marathons. Equinox

in Fairbanks is considered *the* Alaskan marathon. What's interesting is
the winning times are slower than Equinox or Mayor's. She runs some of
the local races (Run with the Bulls (BETWEEN the muskox pens, not in
them), Tues Night), but none that I've done. Our AG has run more of our
local races and has been a trail supporter. He was on the MSB Assembly
and had well-respected reasons for his votes. People actually listened
to him.

Her parents were track/xc coaches, and used to take the whole family to
races when they were kids.

This discusses her running in more detail:

"One immediately notices that Palin is attractive. The reason she is
attractive as she is at age 44, is that she is a super fit marathon
runner. If Palin is still especially good looking, it is in no small
part because she has earned it."

I'll be damned, running makes you good looking! Now this is a real
bonus to get more women into running. I can see it now "ugly or simply
not good looking? run and become good looking." Does it only work on
female genes?
We'll need to get Garrison Keillor to change his sign-off to reflect a
gender change. "
"the MEN strong, the WOMEN are looking, and all of the children are
above average."

Not to take from her running effort but the article written by a fan.

Of course not.

Before running, for instance, I was merely well above average looking.

Now I can't even keep my hands off myself.

I'll have to remember that next time I'm thinking of bagging a run.
