Since 1789, all land in France has been deemed to be allodial. Since
prior to 1789, allodial lords were titled as princes due to the fact
that they owed no allegiance to no earthly superior for ownership of
their land.
Questions: -how can the french state levy land taxes on allodial lands
-how is the owner of allodial land today not as much
a prince as such an owner prior to 1789 |

What makes you suppose that the power to levy taxes is dependent on
whether lands are held from some superior? The French state can levy
land taxes because the French Constitution gives the French National
Assembly the power to do so.

Alloidal lords of the minor holdings did in time offer their services
as vassals. And the crown, and as Joseph says the current
constitution gives the state the power to tax. The modern alloidals
are owners referring to an old discription of freehold - currently
with no mortage. But they still pay property taxs |
