At the range practicing double taps, I had one sequence that sounded like
three shots in full auto. (CZ75B pistol) I'd like to understand what is
going on there, so that I won't repeat it. (Special range permission is
required for double tap practice, and three or more rapid shots violates
range rules.)
I don't think there is a mechanical malfunction. Perhaps taking up the
trigger slack in advance gets an unintentional first shot off as the trigger
finger goes for the two shots. Any ideas?

The pistol is only about 4 months old, and a month ago was serviced by a
very good gunsmith who works exclusively on CZ. So, a mechanical problem is
possible, but doesn't spring instantly to mind.
Your suggestion of gripping more firmly may be the key, as the grip may have
been loose while taking the slack up. Don't know much about bump firing,
but I was using the standard two handed grip.
I'll also ask the local guy we call "Steve the Pistol Wizard" to check it
out.

Make sure that you are firing Controlled Pairs and not Hammers.
Controlled pairs consist of 3 sight pictures, 2 trigger pulls, 3
trigger resets and 2 shots on target. (The 3rd trigger reset and sight
picture is for follow through for that third shot that you don't quite
pull the trigger on.)
Hammers are one sight picture, 2 trigger pulls and blind faith that
your trigger pull timing is good enough to get the second shot on
target when the gun comes back down from recoil
Hammers can be fun for newer shooters that discover they can now do
fast double-taps. Who doesn't like the feeling when they know that
they have ripped of some .25, .20 or .17 second splits.
But Hammers are trap when you start to need real accuracy. Hammers
don't work when you need headshots at 10 yards and beyond. They fail
miserably when your grip is not perfect or the gun is not cycling
normaly.
It's much better to make sure that you have a sight picture for every
time you pull the trigger. With practice, you will be ripping
controlled pairs with .35, .25, .20 and faster splits.
Also, do you practice with other guns that have a heavier trigger than
your CZ? Is your trigger accustomed to a heavier trigger and not
sensing the reset on the CZ?
