Actually I don't think it's obvious but I think you're onto something.
What's your theory?

a white tiger woods wouldnt bring races of all kinds to the game...
How much has vj Singh made from general public aimed endorsements?
It is more about personality, nationality, charisma and sex appeal, best
have a great smile.... combined with a phenom player and arriving at the
right time.
You think if Tiger was ugly he would have made as much? And he is one of
those guys that transcends race stereotypes. Even Obama's old racist granny
would not be afraid of him on the street. Someone once said about Jordan
that he only looked menacing to guys in shorts on a hardwood floor.
Remember aggassi when he looked like a 80's rock star? He was making money
before he won anything big and TV ratings jumped.
http://a.abcnews.com/images/US/nm_agassi_91_ssv.jpg
I have a better question... women’s tennis is attracting record attendance
and TV ratings and out drawing men's for years, why is the prize money still
less for them?
With Obama and now Tiger you seem, I do not know quite how to discribe how
it comes accross, miffed?... that some of their success is because of race?
If it is partly succeeding because they are black, instead of despite it as
seems to be the more common opinion, why does that seem to bother you?
Black has meant overcoming for centuries why be upset if it has come so far
in 40 years that it is actually an aid in politics, acting, music or sports?
Or am I just reading you wrong?

Prize money (at grand slams at least) is equal these days...
This is from the Wimbledon site:
That is good...As of last year ....finally.... but long after Tiger was a
star.
But they fought it for years.
And here is an opnion on it....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/07/04/stjohn104.xml
The equal prize-money debate goes on, but the All England Club have almost
got it right in rewarding this year's respective singles champions with
£750,000 each. The only minor distinction they should have made was to ink
in that figure on the men's cheque in British pounds, and the girls' in
Polish zlotys.
At the least the men know they need to be full-time professionals to have a
decent shot at winning. The top women are so useless that the Williams
sisters spend more time attending to their latest clothing lines and
interior design consultancies than playing tournaments, and yet they still
manage - in between fashion shoots for Vogue magazine - to pop over and win
Wimbledon.
Venus, who won last year's event as the 27th seed, was the prime mover in
the equal prizes campaign, claiming that interest in the women's game was
every bit as high as in the men's. Complete tosh, of course, as is
self-evident from the cost of Centre Court corporate box tickets for the
respective programmes.

sorry not an american hero... try again...
What do you have against Fiji? =)
Was not a try, I know the several reasons and answered my own question.
And Tiger out-earns everyone worldwide too. Even people like Beckham who was
wildly popular in the rest of the world.
And in all sports Mickelson is the #3 in the world for earnings on and off
the course.
Before it was tiger it was Jordan, not like he did not have plenty of black
american competition.
Mickelson remains well behind Tiger in endorsement income. But he still
makes as much as LeBron and Shaq combined.

If Ali and Jordan had not come before would a black golfer have become the
next world wide sports icon?
Tiger was a dominating force taking a sport by storm where the former golf
icon were aging or gone...and the right personality and looks (not just
race) in the right place at the right time, both when Jordan was retiring
(again) and the right moment in history or it would not have mattered how
good he was, they would not have let him play golf tournaments...
This is your thread, and you never answered my questions. Why does it bother
you IF his race, or mixed race, helped his popularity instead of hurting for
a change? The media has tried often enough to create the 'next jordan',
Tiger just happened.

If I remember correctly it's been that way for several decades largely
thanks to Billie Jean King.
