NEW NATIONAL CHAMPIONS CROWNED
AT 2008 U.S. OPEN OF TABLE SOCCER!
Atlanta, Georgia – Nearly 400 table soccer (a.k.a. “foosball”) players
and enthusiasts, including some of the greatest names ever to play the
game, turned out to compete at the recent U.S. Open of Table Soccer.
Held April 17-20th at the Hilton Airport Hotel in Atlanta, the annual
event is one of the largest in the United States, and drew players
from as far away as Canada, Costa Rica and even Hungary.
Table soccer fans were able to watch some of the best foosball action
anywhere, with competitive levels fierce between members of the U.S.
National Team, national team members of numerous other countries and a
number of very strong, up-and-coming new stars. Adding to the
excitement, as a United States Table Soccer Federation sanctioned
event the top U.S. finishers in Women’s Doubles, Women’s Singles and
Men’s Open Doubles all qualified to compete as U.S. National Champions
at the International Table Soccer Federation’s World Championships
Finals in Italy later this year.
With categories for men and women and beginner through Master, the
tournament was open to all levels of skill and experience. Taking home
the National Champions title in Open Doubles were Tom Yore and Bobby
Diaz of Florida with Melissa Kegg and Lisa Pride of Ohio taking the
title in Women’s Doubles, and in Women’s Singles it was Tiffany Moore
of Illinois. The Open Singles event was won by past World Champion
Tony Spredeman of Wisconsin. Hanna Smith and Dakota Diaz (KY) picked
up the title in Junior Doubles and in Junior Singles it was Evan Jones
(NC). Senior events saw John Zoller (LA) and Bruce Nardoci (NC) win
doubles, with Nardoci also taking first in Senior Singles. Further
categories included numerous specialty competitions, such as “Draw
Your Partner Doubles,” “Forward Shootout” and “Goalie Wars.”
All competition took place on Tornado Table Soccer™ tables, made by
the Valley-Dynamo division of Brunswick, Inc. Sponsors of the
tournament were Independent Foosball Promotions, the Atlanta Airport
Hilton Hotel (reservations: 1-404-767-9000) and TornadoFoosball.com.
Sponsors of the U.S. National Team include Brunswick, Foosball.com,
Sebastian Custom Warm-ups, and Borden Milk Products of North Texas.
Video production and live web-streaming were provided by

and even Las Vegas, Nevada, while table soccer players from over 60
