Ok, the cussin' - NSFW - wasn't exactly true, but the rest of this is.
Long story short - I had a spare tire installed on the trailer when I
purchased it - there is a mount as part of the trailer and being the
type that "things" happen to, a spare tire is a good thing.
At the time, I had a spare lock wheel nut installed to hold the tire
to the mount. I would take the lug nut cover off, rotate the lock lug
and little, then reinstall the nut - make sure it would come off, etc.
Last year, for some reason, I forgot to do that. So this year, then I
found the tire problem, I decided to remove the tire and have it
redone as I had the other tires.
Well, guess what - it had rusted it'self to the lug and I managed to
strip off the gripping nodes on the lock lug. Ok, get a nut buster.
Only the nut buster won't fit the interior of the tire. Time for the
big artillery.
Got out the dye grinder, fired up the air compressor and made a notch
at the front of the nut, then got out the air hammer and hammered it
open - without ruining the stud I might add - I RULE!!!
Er...well, anyway, after all this, I got out my supply of 13/16" lug
nuts and went to install them onto the spare when I discovered that
the lug holes on the spare tire do not match the holes on the trailer
tires - meaning....
That the holes on the spare are...METRIC!!
Which means that I would have played hell trying to take the spare off
if only lugs had been used on the spare carrier because they are
smaller than the 13/16" inch lug holes on the trailer tires - and
metric - the tire won't take a 13/16" lug.
Could only happen to me.
