Its around 50 to 60 years old, All wood, has legs. I'm looking for a
appraisal or worth of this item. Thank you. |

Pretty much like what my classmates bought in high school, for their
"hope chests." No real vintage or antique value - just what you can
get for it, IMO.
If they are cedar-lined, they are very useful for storing the less-
used items like quilts, bedding, your great-granny's wedding dress,
your christening outfit and the like. Keep it and enjoy it. Put it
in a garage sale for $25-50, and be prepared to accept an offer. Give
it to a favorite young female relative for their future home, if they
want it. Donate it to your local high school or college for their
drama section's supply of props.

Not much.
The first problem you have, is the lock. The lids are
so heavy, and they are designed to lock automatically
when the lid is closed. Kids have died in those things,
hence the product recall years ago (on the newer models).
Secondly, each style was made for many years, so they're
easy to find. There's also the style problem: Lane
managed to style them so that they seldom fit with
*ANY* decor.
BUT....if you had one of the older "waterfall" designs,
you could get a bit for it if in like-new condition.
If you're doing a yard sale, put $25 on it and hope
someone comes by with a truck. Or, maybe $50 or $75

Notice that only one was sold - must have been a furniture style
someone wanted. Those prices certainly don't reflect what they are
"going for." There were no bids on nearly all of them.
Since it's a family piece, just keep it and enjoy it.

Doug, our best efforts in this thread were just to tempt you out of
the woodwork. ;-)

Yeah. When people say "going for", it means "I saw
one with that much on the price tag"....and it has
no relationship to whether the item sold or not.
If the items really were "going for" that much, they'd
be gone! |

You may have, hon, but it's no fun doing it alone.
