The African dead beneficiary spam we all get in our spamcatcher inboxes is
sometimes entertaining. It claims falsely to be from bank managers in
Burkina Faso, but is devoid of the euphemisms and obfuscations and
cowardices that predominate banker language as I know it. The long sentences
that still somehow come straight to the point please me. So do the
unfamiliar throwaway politesses, which are akin to what people here use in
speech but never in business letters, and which are far more elegant than
"How are you?" |
