Well, there's some good bouts tomm night.
I particularly want to see Josh Burkmann vs Justin Hazlet, who is that
new breed of very skilled young mma guys. This could be interesting.
Also, Matt Brown, vs Matt Arroyo from last yr's show
Young Matt Riddle versus Dante Rivera- I'm interested in how much Riddle
has learned and if he can dominate Rivera and show me a real UFC
youngster on the rise...
Diego Sanchez vs Luigi Fioravanti- Sanchez always tough and looking to
see if he's continued to grow
And Amir Sadallah, vs cb dollaway.
I hope Sadallah wins. He had guts, and although Dollaway is the better
fighter, I don't like his total inability to learn submissions, and put
together even rudimentary submissions when he had the chance during the
show, esp with his arrogance. Sadallah's got enough heart for the whole
bunch this season.
Anyway... it's free and I get a front seat guaranteed.
Ok... make your picks....

And Dollaway got caught again by Amir Sadalloh who earns kudos' for
quiet dignity coming out of the usual Tuf guys and fortitude thru all
his fights, growing and becoming a fine fighter.
I wasn't watching when the Hazelett vs Burkeman fight took place so I'd
love it if someone puts that one up.... Hazlett the 22 yr old armbars
the very tough josh burkman.
Diego Sanchez vs Fioravanti was a really good fight and filled with
skills from both fighters with Diego winning at the end of round three
in a fight thats worth watching again to see a really great tactical
fight with reversals, and two good fighters showing mma for what it's
capable of.
Let's see... Matt Brown beat Arroyo, but wasn't on TV and Matt Riddle
showed that he's clearly the better fighter than the gutsy tough Dante
Rivera and now that he's training at a real mma gym, getting better, and
tougher so he's among that new breed of mma fighters who trained as mma
fighters and show the natural advantage in the octagon moving from all
aspects of the game.
Watching Kendall Grove try to finish off Evan Tanner who refuses to lay
down and quit... Grove is showing a savy and poise having gotten beaten
his last two fights and showing he's not done competing.

kendal was fed a drunk for an easy win cause hes a tuf champ. and he
looked horrible.tanner showed nothing but heart, yet kendal
struggled.i just dont see the kendal tonight beating any top 25 185er,
despite rogan and goldie bullshit.
amir has good back game, i just dont see anything from CB.Hes kinda
strong, good wrestler. So? never lands his expolisive punches, seems to
have no grasp of subs.
eveeryone gets all hot and bothered abour every young wrestler.yet
wrestlers dont do near in mma what they used to.everyone has a guard
now, so taking guys down doesnt get you much unless you got good what
we'll call bjj...but whats really an mma top game.
ok, so kos and fitch can get guys down and win by decision, ok
great.but they are the exception, its the st peires, penns, silvas and
mins that are dominating.guys with no wrestling back ground.
lay an pray is dying in mma, somewhat due to the ufc just not wanting
lay and pray ers, and half cause as i said, a bjjer with striking
beats a striker with wrestling or a bjjer with wrestling more often
than not.
you just CANNOT strike that great if you are worried about getting put
on your back.great wrestler or not.
diegos standup looked good, way better than ever, but he still has no
punching power. |

actually... you're right. I wasn't even on my bass ale when I wrote
that. I think I wanted to see the kid pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Yeah... and he had all the time to learn subs from guys who were very
good at them, and never did.

yeah, but he took some nice shots and was never rattled... can a guy
like him ever learn to swat with authority?

90% OF YOUR GAINS ARE YOUR FIRST FEW YEARS OF TRAINING.Then mostly its

I was thinking about Hazelett's strategy and poise and how much he seems
improved even since he fought last year. He discusses how he's been
taught all the moves and counters, and then it's really about instinct
and how he's been working that rather than techniques.
Aside from the obvious, it seems to show in his poise, in his ability to
make a fight and let it happen, and bring out his skills, which I think
his sub at the end was what you'd call, making your position stronger
and stronger. I think he did that by fighting and working until he got
what he needed without trying to force any of it....
Just wondering if there are gyms that really do bring this out of those
mma guys, those who are not learning boxing, wrestling, muy thai, bjj
separately for years, separately for years but as one continuum of mma
and... if it occurs at the smaller gyms or even the bigger one's from
smart coaches.
I thought Riddle looked better, by the way... less careless and more
careful, and Rivera was not willing to go easy, so I was impressed that
Riddle to overpress, but rather worked to make sure he won. For a young
fighter, I thought he lacked that in Tuf, but here, he seemed poised to
win rather than being in a position to mistake like he was in Tuf with
croedure.

holy shit hazelett hit an armbar right off the whizzer, never seen it
before without limp arming the arm thru prior to getting your ass out
an bringing the leg around.
i know what to teach at tommorrow nights class. as my own "old school
special move i used to hit for years an got tired of"
thanks. |
