Sorry, I thought I had this figured out. I have a .wav file existing on my
hard drive. I use WMP Version 9. I also have Exact Audio Copy, but I
just got it and don't really know how to use it.

I also have Nero and iTunes on this pc.

Remember, I am not trying to burn a cd. I am trying to convert a wav file
to an mp3.

For now, I just want to convert one .wav file to an mp3 file. Do I need
some software not already listen above ?

Thanks for any help !!

I have Nero 8 and it will convert the format. Just a matter of opening the
..WAV and saving it as a .MP3

Bruce, I just simply don't know how to do this. Everything that I see in
Nero talks about burning a cd, which I am not trying to do.

Thanks

Which version are you using?

Version 8, the full suite, comes up with a selection screen. The 3rd tab
from the left says "Create and Edit" - when you click on this, you get a
new sub-screen with several choices. At the far right, there are two icons,
one above the other, which say "Edit and Record Sound Files" and "Convert
Audio Files". Either of these will get the job done. The "Record and Edit"
feature would require you to first open the .WAV file, then save it as a
..MP3. This is what I prefer, because I want to make sure it opened cleanly
and plays properly becofre conversion.

Bruce, I think that is my problem in that I have an older version. I
checked mine, and it is Version 6.6.

What is the best way for me to upgrade, just go to the Nero website and
select and download the latest version ? Will it install right over what I
have ?

Thanks a lot Bruce !!

Yeah, pretty much. They made me a deal a while back to upgrade to the full
suite for like $50

Download and install Audacity and the plugins. Open license utility which
rocks...
Browse to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
Use version 1.2.6

When you click on your operating system the page will display optional
plugins.

Click on the LAME MP3 encoder link. Follow directions for your operating
system.

Install Audacity and optional plugins.

Open the WAV file with Audacity. You may perform any editing at this point.
Then save as...

The first time you elect to save as an MP3 you will be prompted to select
the MP3 encoder. Browse to the folder where you placed the dll file and you
will be good to go. I put it in the Audacity folder to keep things simple.
