Saw a Wimbledon official 1980 film on CNBC Europe this morning and it got me
thinking about the two teenage stars Andrea and Tracy. This is the first
time I saw Andrea and I almost laughed out loud when I saw her win a match
and walk off court with the other player. I thought she looked tiny in
comparision. She also had an extreme hairstyle with two huge pigtails which
made Dementieva's look small in comparision. Is she pretending to be a
schoolgirl I thought and then I realised she _was_ a 14 year old schoolgirl.
Spent some time reading up on Andrea's career afterwards. I read about Tracy
a while back
Too bad Andrea's and Tracy's career were cut short due to injuries- no way
would Navratilova or Evert have dominated the sport in the eighties had they
kept playing. What a shame, as in the film I heard Andrea talking and she
seemed like one of the nicest players ever and a lot older than her 14
years.
But then again I guess Andrea doesn't see it that way as she's happy with
her life as a charity worker and says her injury was a blessing. |

Nitpick: Dementieva has a ponytail, not pigtails.
