Red. Three reasons.
1. Red rubber seems to be slightly faster and spinnier than black. No
idea why that would be but it just seems that way.
2. I do a lot of pendulum forehand serves and the contrast between the
ball and red rubber is less, making it slightly harder for the
opponent to red the spin off the bat.
3. I like the way it looks better.

Black, because it's the faster rubber than the red (black Mark V, red Sriver).
Most people seem to prefer red on their forehand, from what I've seen, so I
decided to be contrary.

Mine is Red for the most part. However, with some rubbers the Red is
somewhat more fragile, to which I would be using black.

That depends on what you mean by "what".
The colors have to be different to keep people from using different
kinds of rubber on each side and rotating the paddle, not allowing the
other person to know what the heck is going on. Thank you Dan
Seemiller.
There were many different colors used but they decided on Red and
Black. Apparently because they contrast the balls well(orange and
white) as well as contrasting each other well.

There's long been a 'popular wisdom', based on what? I have no idea, that
the black rubbers are spinnier and last longer than the same brand in red.
FWIW, I always think the red rubbers are 'waxier' and that black plays more
like a natural rubber. This perception is likely based on my having been
told that when I was younger, though. ;-)

IMO, the black is better than red. My black chinese rubber is stickier than
the red side and they are the same 2.2 and brand / model.

Currently it's black, but that's because I have different rubber
sheets on both sides (Coppa 2.5 black and V-stage 2.1 red on Donic
Opticon), so I use the black on the forehand because it's 2.5.
I'm pretty sure there isn't a speed difference between the different
color sheets of the same rubber.
I think it's a matter of taste, but since red is a more active color
than black,
some players might think it looks better on the forehand, which is the
stronger side. |
