Does anyone know of a good resource for purchasing JUST the legs for a
table tennis table? All I need are the legs, and I've done about a
hour's worth of searching, and can only find sites that sell the
entire table. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated! |

The question is not very specific which makes it difficult for me to
answer well.
Why do you want just the legs? It might be as cheap to just buy the
whole table and throw the top away.
You might try contacting some table suppliers and asking for just the
legs. They might have some with broken or damaged tops.
See:
http://www.hal-pc.org/~canupnet/ttsales.html
Of course there are many different types of legs you might want for
different types of applications. You could consider getting 2x4s,
4x4s, concrete, cinder blocks, poles, cardboard boxes, Jello, sand...
Lots of things can support a table.

Actually, Rob, I think the question was quite specific. I want a set
of legs that comes on a table designed for table tennis. I'm not
worried about the top, just the legs. And that was in my question.
I'm not sure how much more detail I could provide.

It doesn't matter why I want just the legs; even so, this was somewhat
helpful.
This helped too, although a lot of the sites on this link seemed to be
foreign, and most were similar to what I'd already found.

Here's what makes me mad -- you don't need to be rude or
condescending. If you don't know of a source that supplies legs for
table tennis, please do not reply to my question about where I can
find them. I don't need to know that I can set a table top on just
about anything. That's obvious, and not helpful. Thank you so much
for your time.

Either this is a troll or someone who doesnt realize that all makes/models
of tables are different as they have different bracketing for the legs.
Honestly you can just use 2x2's as legs. However this is such a silly
question it's GOT to be a troll. Right ? In the very unlikely case you
arent a troll Kevin I'd advise you that there arent any generic table legs
to my knowledge. Its probably best to do a "table tennis" search in Google
and you will find many suppliers who can help you. Just tell them what
make&model of table you have and Im sure they'll get them for you.

Boy, I guess it was a mistake posting a question on this forum. I
thought it would be a great idea, because I'd get help from people who
were interested in the sport, and might have some good leads.
Instead, I'm met with sarcasm all around. There's absolutely no need
for that kind of response. I wasn't rude in posting my question. I
am just curious as to whether you can purchase ANY kind of leg

Thank you, too, for all your "help." If there's anyone out there that

faith in this forum.

I've seen thousands of different types of legs. There are many things
I don't know about the application you're trying to use them for, what
you want to optimize or even what country you are in.

You say foreign. Now I'm guessing your in the US now that you say
that, before, I had no clue. Still I'm not sure if you are in the US.
Of course if price isn't a big factor to you, legs can be shipped.

I'm not trying to be rude; I'm trying to get a feel for what your
looking for and point out how open and clueless I am to the direction
you intend to head.
Is it a stationary table? Do you want the legs to fold? Do you want
them to roll.
Later I see you say it's a aesthetic look you are trying to achieve.
You could even buy a whole table and just flip the top over. The more
details you provide, the easier it is to answer these questions.
Maybe you could describe the top and how you want to attach it; where
and how it will be used and what type of look you're going for.
You might want to buy a used table of eBay locally.

You can buy hardware and legs at Home Depot or Lowes that easily attach to
the table top you're designing. Probably can't beat their prices either.
They'll even cut the legs you buy to your desired length at no extra cost.
Check it out.

Hmmm. So far, I've been told that Jello can hold up a table, and I've

those posts.
All I want to do is construct a piece of furniture. As part of that

something I needed. So don't tell me "don't complain," and to "make

and the response I've been getting from you has been extraordinarily
frustrating.
Honestly. I asked a simple question. Does anyone know whether you
can purchase the leg mechanism for a ping pong table? I want to have
the capability of folding the table up, and the easiest way to
accomplish that is to use something that was designed for the task.
I'm not sure why asking that question gives anyone the right to
criticize me, but hey, I guess that's just the way people are.
So yet again, I ask if anyone has any information that would help me.
I don't need sarcasm, and I don't need criticism -- that's all I've

I thought the suggestions were good.
Basically, the important thing is to ensure the table is at the correct height
and that it is level. Other than that, the only other thing is if the table
has to be easily mobile or if you plan to leave it sit. If you are going to
leave it sit, making a platform or set of legs should be quite easy. If it
is to be mobile, then does it need to be folded? Foldable is hardest. And
if you have that requirement, I can see why you would want to purchase rather
than construct.
As far as buying just the legs without the table, I've never heard of them
being sold separately, but that doesn't mean they aren't. If you are planning
on building your own table, I would think that is much harder than the legs.

are a few nutcases, trolls, and various people with nothing better to

Kevin,
When Robert mentioned using Jello it was obvious he was just joking.
Certainly it wasnt meant to belittle you in any way. Also I never accused
you of being a troll but I certainly did ponder the idea. Its just that
your question seemed so silly, uh sorry, dont want to offend, I mean simple.
Your question was so non-specific that there just wasnt an easy answer to
give. After all these posts you have finally given some specifics ...
"Does anyone know whether you can purchase the leg mechanism for a ping pong
table? I want to have the capability of folding the table up... "
Honestly as I see it you can do a couple different things 1st, you may want
to try going to http://www.escaladesports.com They are the dist for Stiga
tables. There you can download the manuals for different models. Look at
the parts blow-up and find the part numbers of the parts you need then give
them a call. The replacement parts I've ordered in the past didnt cost that
much but Im not sure about the legs. 2nd you could look at these blow-ups
and construct similar mechanisms yourself from items found at the hardware
store ? The latter certainly seems more involved. Or, as Robert mentioned
you could just use some Jello to support it. In fact, thats something I'd
like to see !

Thanks, Eric. I will head to H.D. and check that out.
As for Rob, thank you for following up. I realize that you were
looking for a lot more information than I initially provided, and I
took offense to the way you responded. Shouldn't have, and I'm sorry.
Yes, I'm in the U.S., by the way - near Chicago, IL. Essentially, I'm
looking for a table that will fold completely for storage, and half
will fold up for single player use. I'm planning on designing and
building a top that will make it look like a furniture piece that just
happens to work for table tennis. The goal is to minimize the actual
work I have to do, hence the mechanism that is already designed for
that purpose. I'm thinking the best thing to do might be to buy a
used one, just like you suggested, and discard the top (hopefully that
will be deteriorated, and not the legs).
Once again, thank you for your insight, and I'm sorry for taking
offense to your first post. I'll post again if I'm ever able to
complete this project - complete with pictures. |

When you say Chicago, I think of Killerspin. They have some original legs on
their tables. I imagine you've already looked at them, but if you haven't,
here's a link:
http://store.killerspin.com/public/type_main.php?parent=1&type=1
For single player use, the table is generally kept in one piece and then rolled
on wheels. I'd stay away from the cheaper ones if you plan or rolling it much
or put a heavy top on.
The US Open was just held in Chicago, so maybe they have some deals on used
tables in that area.

http://natabletennis.com/cgi-bin/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_C
ode=NCS&Category_Code=ST
They have a Supreme table for $749 which has a nice bottom and textured top
that didn't have great reviews.
Used Stiga Supreme Table
Code: Supreme Table
Price: $749.99
Quote: Essentially, I'm
looking for a table that will fold completely for storage, and half
will fold up for single player use. I'm planning on designing and
building a top that will make it look like a furniture piece that just
happens to work for table tennis.
You might want to look at the Zwisler Tables which were made to look like
furniture:

http://web.archive.org/web/20030604043442/http://zwislerbros.com/tabletenn
is.htm
These websites seem to be down and I'm not sure if the company is still in
business or not. I provided a web archive link.
I think they were priced from $3000 to about $6000+.
Quote: The goal is to minimize the actual
work I have to do, hence the mechanism that is already designed for
that purpose.
For a furniture look, I'd recommend buying actual claw foot dining table legs
and mounting them.
I have a few ideas on how to do that, which I'll try to explain if you're
interested.
Quote: I'm thinking the best thing to do might be to buy a
used one, just like you suggested, and discard the top (hopefully that
will be deteriorated, and not the legs).
Be careful to get something that will support the weight and be durable enough
to move as often as you anticipate.
Quote:
Once again, thank you for your insight, and I'm sorry for taking
offense to your first post. I'll post again if I'm ever able to
complete this project - complete with pictures.
I'd like to see it for sure.
