I like birds okay but am sick of the mess left on cars parked under a
tree on my property (the tree overhangs my driveway). So much so that
unless I can find a solution, I'll likely do what I've been thinking
about but putting off for a number of years which is cut the tree
down. I really don't want to cut the tree down but the bird thing has
gotten unacceptable. Does anyone have any sure fire remedy for
something like this? Some sort of spray maybe??? TIA

Do you have any neighbors with a chainsaw? Seriously, I don't think there's
a solution. Plastic owls don't work. Anybody else?

Ya know, this is a rock and a hard place thing. I object to simply hacking
trees down because birds use them to roost...even if I tire of car-washing.

Overhanging trees provide shade, as well as bird roosting, and the hot sun
is as detrimental to auto paint as bird whitewash. I also enjoy sliding into
a COOL car in the summer, rather than scalding my bum on grill-temp seats.

However, I wouldn't hesitate to remove a tree if its limbs/trunk were a
property hazard in storm or wind.

Oh--- nope, nothing ( that I know of) will keep birds out of trees.

Arbor day was yesterday. I suppose it's alright for you to cut tree down
today.

I doubt there is any way you are going to keep birds out of the tree. I
think you have three obvious options -

- cut down the tree or, if possible, trim the limbs that overhang your car
- park somewhere else (garages work very well at preventing bird droppings
on the car)
- get a car cover

Clear skies, Alan

BTW, I use option 2, even though I have no trees that overhang my driveway.
Even so, I've had some pretty nasty messes from flyovers.

Same problem here too....so, watching to
see if anyone comes up with a solution....
and, there just has to be, short of doing
away with the tree....maybe a scarecrow!
One that moves alot!!!

Tried the owl thing - waste of time. One thing that DID seem to work
fairly well was Diazinon (sprayed the tree for Aphids) but it's no
longer available. The tree is KIND OF in the way but in general, I
like trees and hate to cut them down. Birds on the other hand, WERE
my friends when they weren't crapping on the car... Wink Noted a
couple of sites on the net that offer all kinds of concoctions but
hoped to get some reliable info on something prior to wasting money on
'snake oil' remedies.
