I had to go out of town early Monday morning but before I left I
cleaned and refilled the hummer feeder.
I also hung a flag windsock to honor the holiday and purposely put it
far away from any feeders.
I got home late that night and saw the windsock moved.
My guess is it came loose and one of my neighbors was nice enough to
grab it.
But guess where they hung it!!!
On the hummer feeder!!!
Since then, hummerless :(

The hummers still haven't returned.
I also had a pair of mourning doves disappear and really didn't notice
until they returned this morning.
I have a feeling the windsock did some damage but a sneaking suspicion
that my neighbor let his cats out while I was gone for the day.

I called the town office here this morning about a cat that's been hunting
at my feeders since the week after we moved in here. They tell me there are
so many cat calls that there's a three week waiting list for the traps!!
How many birds is this cat going to catch in the meantime???!
Hope your hummers return, Wyn.... have faith. I'm sure they will.

I just glanced at the window and saw some movement in my hanging
basket of million bells.
A male hummer!!
He went to 6 or so flowers and fed and I didn't even know they were a
source of food.
I bought the plant because I heard they were hard to kill.
My cat was sprawled almost on his back on the windowsill but didn't
move even though I saw his eyes wide open.
I think he was in shock!
Below is a potted geranium and the hummer looked like he wanted to
check it out but then must of spotted the cat.
It flew down right in front of the cat and just hovered for about 5
seconds before it took off.
I ran over to look if it was on the feeder but no.
Hoping they all come back to the feeder, mixed up some fresh brew!
I also have the brightest red house finch!! What a stud!!
The females always remind me of velociraptors(?) for some reason!!
When my neighbor got home from work he let his four cats out.
I had a downey on the suet and it took off fast.
I went out and made sure no birds were on the ground and checked
around for the chimpmunk & rabbits.
Man, I've been as tactful as possible when speaking to him, bringing
up the facts
that his cats are all female, unfixed, never had shots, that doesn't
he want to prevent more cats or disease?
I 've mentioned in the past our lease agreements, 2 INDOOR CATS!!!
That it bothers my cat when he see's cats outside!
God, I hate to be a whiny tenant, have conflict, but time to complain.
Luckily management had told me to call if I ever saw his cats out but
he'll know it's me who's complaining. Arghhh!

lol Tammie, we must have been writing about the same time!!
Can you trap the cat yourself or get near it?
That's what I'd do if I could, throw all four of my ignorant neighbors
cats in my van and drive um down to the shelter!!
Just boggles my mind that he even lets them out, let alone he's too
dang irresponsible to take them to get fixed which is why he has four,
or to get vaccines!
And thanks for the encouragement, you were right about the hummers!

If I were you, I wouldn't be too worried about him knowing it was you that
complained. I believe you have every right to! I'm at the point now where
I don't care if the owners know it's me that reported their cat as a stray.
They'll have to pay the price to get it out of the pound.... or whatever it
is they do with strays here. I'm not sure but I know the owners will have
to pay. You do what you have to do and to heck with what he thinks. He's
breaking the rules and not being the least bit considerate of his
neighbours. Whatever happens is his own fault.

I have no way of trapping this cat and would much rather let the township do
it.... the owners will have to pay, that way and that's the whole point.
Hit 'em in the wallet... that's normally where it hurts the most!
I think people who refuse to vaccinate their animals but still let them run
loose deserve whatever consequences befall them. I've watched a few cats on
this street mess in other peoples' flowerbeds, etc. It just infuriates me!
My cats (when I did have 'em) never went outside and were both fixed to
boot. I don't understand people like your neighbour, I'm afraid.
Glad your hummer returned! Has your cat recovered from it's shock yet??

lol, as soon as the hummer took flight my cat sprang up and went
crazy.
He raced all over the place doing wheelies and swiped at my ankles.
He's a small grey/black tabby with a white belly and is great comfort.
When I got him 6 years ago I really couldn't afford it but I went
without things to get him fixed and vaccinated.
My son found him while rollerblading in a box next to a dumpster.
I don't know how to explain the velocoraptor comment.
Just something that clicked in my brain when I first saw one.
I guess because they are so streamlined looking with no color and the
females always seem so nervous, looking around.
Just reminds me of a dino somehow!
