Entity/Azure...

I haven't seen any mention of how Entity Framework will relate to
Azure. Does anyone know of any references? Is Azure DB access limited
to traditional queries, or are there plans to introduce higher level
constructs? (EF, etc)

No replies yet...thought I'd give this a bump.

You have to understand that the main idea behind the cloud is you have
the app spread across multiple machines. Other than being able to
automagically spread across any number of machines, which is handled by
mechanisms in the cloud, the app looks a feels a lot like any other app.
Yes, bits have to be "cloud aware" or "cloud enabled". The main obstacle
is Azure is not yet baked enough to the point where it is an easy enough
platform to develop for. Once that is done, I am sure you will see more
and more bits being baked in, including entity framework.

Unfortunately, I cannot say definitively yes to the question (this is an
educated guess), but I see no reason EF cannot be baked in at some point
in the future. Let them stabilize, simplify and get the tooling up to
the same level as other tools and you will start seeing more in feature
set.

Peace and Grace,
Greg

Thanks for the cogent reply, Greg. I guess that's why no one had
replied to the first inquiry. I've searched for info on EF in Azure,
but haven't found much that indicated current status or forward
direction. I hope that it's as you indicate--that there are no
inherent obstacles.

I have found more info on LINQ/Azure, so that is probably a better
immediate plan. The main goal is to use "Live Services" but in this
case, it requires DB access for some data. It seems counterproductive
to have to come back to a local system for that. And some apparently
think that despite the immediate appeal of EF, LINQ may serve better
in many cases anyway.

Thanks again!

Hello,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee621789.aspx seems to show how to
do that...
