I'm a new user of Photoshop (CS4). Have used GIMP quite a bit,
and just wondering whether there is a PS equivalent of the Liquid
Rescale plugin that is available for GIMP?

Yes. It's called context-sensitive resize - look for it under the help
menu.

Yes. It's called context-sensitive resize - look for it under the help
menu.

naming/terminologies.

Yes. It's called context-sensitive resize - look for it under the help

Look for 'Content-Aware Scale', that will give you a better chance of
finding something...
