The default font dimension in FM 10 is really too small, there is a
zoom utility but going to 150% is already too much!
I didn't find any setting, is that possible to be so stupid not
allowing arbitrary resize? (even very old word was able to..)

FileMaker plans this as the great feature in v42 in the year 3000 :)

Default font is what you set. In layout mode, click on an empty space in
the layout, and choose the font then. It will apply on any new text
object.
It's a general problem that a decent printing size is too small for
screen work. I tend to set 14pt for screen work and 10pt for printing.
Means you'll have to create seperates layouts for input and output, but
you might want to do that for other reasons as well.

You can change the default font in Preferences.
But, more broadly, fonts and sizes are properties of layouts. You can
set fonts and sizes as desired for layouts as a whole and for objects
within layouts. After you have done that in one layout, any new layout
will pick up those same properties (until you change them again).
You can set the font and size in a field in a layout by clicking on a
field and setting the font & size for the field.
You can select all the fields in a layout and set the font and size.
Once you have set the font & size for a field in a layout, FileMaker
will automatically use that font and size for any new fields you put in
the layout, and any fields in new layouts.
You can click in the body of the layout and set font and size. When you
make a new layout, that same font and size will be the default for the
layout.
Layout design is the way to a successful user interface. You have
enormous flexibility in layout design. Make use of it intelligently.
There are various white papers etc on the subject on the FileMaker web
site. |

settings would be the best way.
But given many many layouts and no time to change them because they've

increase the size??

The only other real option is to change the operating system settings for
your display to use a lower resolution.
It's the ever enlarging display that causes this sort of problem when
usingin old files. I've noticed that databases which look fine on my old Mac
tend to look decidedly "small" when transferred over to a newer iMac ...
I've learnt to make things look bigger on my Mac so that they look "right"
after being transferred.
