I need to upgrade from 7.31.FC6 to 7.31.FD1.
Where can I find the release notes for 7.31.FD1?
Does it take long? (database size is 500GB, 100.000 tables)

Can it be done free of charge? (no I don't have a support contract)

You need to upgrade to 11.5 as 7.3 is out of support. Ah! you don't
have a support contract, how are you going to get the FD1 software ??
No, it is not free without a support contract. Release notes come with
the software (or a support contract). Time to upgrade is dependant on
the hardware, the complexity of procedures, the number of indexes and
the tasks that need to be done around the edge of an upgrade, but you
will find this out when you read the support notes when you get the
software, Ah! you can't get the software as you DON'T HAVE A SUPPORT
CONTRACT.

No, I don't work for IBM.

As Keith Simmoms says:

- You own a perpetual licence for IDS 7.31 (assuming you did originally
acquire it legitimately).
- You can therefore legitimately deploy any 7.31 version you wish.
- However, as you do not have a valid support contract you will not be able
to get the 7.31FD1 software from IBM.

IDS 7.31 is out of support now, so you do not even have the option of
reinstating maintenance or buying new licences for IDS 7.31.

Upgrading the porting set of BaaN needs minimum 7.31.FD1.

We did get it free with BaaN and had for years a support contract.
Since Informix 7.31 is solid as a rock and their was no need to
upgrade (till now), we stopped the contract a few years ago.

IB that Baan supports the current release which is 11.50FC5. You should
upgrade to that and get fully re-licensed and supported.

Welllll, you didn't get it free at all. Baan simply folded the license
costs into your Baan purchase. Informix (or IBM) did get paid for your
original license. It really is time to relicense. IDS 11.50 is
significantly faster than 7.31 and has many excellent features that you are
not taking advantage of currently.

Art,
Did Baan reverse itself on their position that they were no longer going to support IDS for their newer releases of their software?
It could be that they want to migrate to the later 7.31xx release so that they can migrate easier.

Baan resold Informix and didn't OEM it. If they did, then the OP could call Baan for support, providing that they have a current support contract with Baan.

It's hard to tell if they support Informix... They have products
certified on IDS 11, but I'm not sure if it's "Baan"...

I'm involved in a Baan migration to IDS 11.10. Unfortunately at the time
the project begun 11.50 was not certified...

Regards.
