Hi,
can someone tell me what operator is and what does the operator in the
following example?
x |
-------
| f(x)
It should be a variant of a division but I don't know in what way it's
different.

It looks like the Pringsheim notation for continued fractions.

It looks like the Pringsheim notation for continued fractions.
So it is. Until now, I've only ever seen the summation and set-like
(x = <a0;a1,a2 ... aN>) notations.
