What is the status of your book? I have it preordered on Amazon.com
for months now! :)

Also, I tried contacting you by e-mail, but received no reply. What's
your most current contact information?

AFAIK it is still scheduled for release in November. I am incorporating
the final copy edits for the production manuscript this week.

BTW, that is volume II. MBD: Applications. Volume I, MDB: Architecture
won't be out until sometime in early '01.

Hmmm. I have no idea what the problem is; I've been using
h.lah... at (no spam) verizon.net for years. Even the old h... at (no spam) pathfindermda.com is
still forwarding AFAIK.

I'm glad to hear there are two volumes. When I saw the page estimate
at 300 pages, I thought there was no way you could fit everything you
know into 300 pages. But, it takes a long time to write a short
letter, and you've been retired for a decade Smile

I haven't actually seen the announcement; I just heard about it because
a friend googled me.

300 pages?!? No way. The original review draft was 1500+ pages double
spaced. The main criticism was the length and I managed to prune it down
to a bit over 900 pages. (Which was traumatic; as you are no doubt
aware, I am somewhat legendary for being able to describe any picture in
a thousand words.) Single spacing will result in something close to 500
pages unless A-W is planning to use 4 pt type.

Volume I will be shorter because Greg Eakman will be the main
contributor there. About all I provide is a few chapters on application
partitioning.

If it's possible, I wouldn't mind reading the bloated copy instead.
I'll still buy the "more dead tree friendly" 900 page version,
though. I like underlining in books when I read them, and there's no
way I'd print a PDF.

As an aside, I think this is the one think Amazon Kindle got wrong:
poor support for annotation and being able to store annotations
somewhere. How I'd love to digitize all the notes I've scribbled into
books over the years.

They clearly updated the info. It used to say it was going to be
publushed in the fall of this year. October I think.

It is pretty routine for publishers to give fake page counts to Amazon
for items that they want to take pre-orders for.
