reply, that I wanted a copy of something CLOSE, that was
public domain, because we've had big budget cuts this year.

You said nothing of the sort.
What is it about "Does anyone have "Americana SB Bold" they could
post?" that says or implies that you wanted "something close that ws
public domain"?
There is a Bitstream family of Americana that was included in the
inexpensive "Bitstream 300" some years ago. Most recent versions of
Corel Draw have included the normal, bold, and italic versions as well.
WSI/IMSI copied/cloned Americana and renamed it Amphion. WSI was long
ago forced out of the font business. The font can easily be found.
