Does anyone have a list of all folders that must have 'Full Control' in order
to install Pdox 9 Runtime?
I've got a client with Server2008 that has the security locked very tightly.
Currently, it is squawking that the Windows\Fonts folder is trying to be
updated. I'd like to give him 1 list of all folders he needs to (temporarily?)
open up.
TIA,

The IT guys want a list of every folder that will be updated.

Hi Jim,
If the "IT" guys were any good then they would use a tool which would
provide them with this information. I mean why stop at folders, why not
registry settings as well ?? How I do this is to install under Altiris
before deciding whether it is safe or not. Altiris also provides you with a
list of just about everything that gets modified , including registry keys.
The advantage is that I do not need to bother anyone with such stupid
requests and thats assuming you can identify the software creator.

At least some install media includes this information in a text format as
part of the install package. I suspect you could find it for Paradox by
looking at the files on the CD (or in the package if you're creating your
own install).

Funny - great minds think alike. I dug out the old Pdox 9 manuals from the
back of the closet yesterday, but couldn't find anything.
After rereading my client's request, I think I misinterpreted what the IT
guys want. They were complaining that they got a permissions error, and
want an automatic installer for Server2008 that won't squawk. Reading a
Rick Kelly Vista post, it seems this can be accomplised with a manifest file
(his was for BDE).
Am I on the right track? I don't have Server2008, and google hasn't been
much help yet. This would be for Pdox 9 Runtime & BDE.
--- Email excerpt: ----
We have attempted to install my app but the first installer will not progress.
We are having permission issues with the installation due to the elevated
permission requirements of 2008 server. I have attached the initial error
message related to the first installation step.
Error: 'I could not create the fonts directory,
please ensure you have selected a valid path and try again.'
Is there a way for you to prepare 2008 server compatible installer(s) for
us so we can move forward and get the new environment pushed out.
--- Email excerpt end ----
Here's Rick's post: http://pnews.thedbcommunity.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=article&group=pnews.paradox-discussions&item=28641&utag=

I have no idea. I've never had to do my own install package and our IT guys,
who are very security conscious, recognize that installs ought to be done
as a person with full rights to everything (if you want the app to work right).

After one more go-round with the IT guys, they did try to run it as admin.
But it failed. They're going to setup my own little sandbox in Server2008
to see if I can figure it out. I'll probably be back for more help then!
;)
Thanks,

They're probably using AD and have all kinds of group policies and
what-not that even being a domain administrator won't override.
And, just for good measure, I looked at the p9dev edition cd and Corel
are no longer including a file that lists all the changes the install
will make. They might create such a file (in which case, you could
install on a workstation and pull that file after the fact to see what
got installed), but you can't get it ahead of time.
The PDE used to make such a file when you built the package, don't know
if it still does.
There are also programs (like LANDesk) that will image a computer,
thereby giving you all the details of an install by taking a before and
after snapshot....
FWIW,
Liz

How right you are. They finally ran it as a 'local administrator' instead
of just using 'Run as admin' and it worked fine. Amazing that it took 3
weeks for them to try that! ;)
Thanks for your help!
