Hi
I have a Master in informatical engineering in a good italian
university. After working for two years in robotics-artificial
intelligence related european project in another italian university,
I realize that would like to do a Phd in a university in USA or
England, to develop my ideas.
I'm interested in machine learning, evolutionary computation,
cognitive science with an interdisicplinary approach.
I'm 34, I'll need founds, I would like to get names of good
universities, other than the most famous like Stanford, MIT, CMU,
etc..
I'll be grateful to evryone will give me a meaningful advice.

The University of Edinburgh has a long history in Artificial intelligence
and is generally regarded as one of the best universities in Great Britain.

Edinburgh is indeed a great university with a strong AI centre.
There are several more places, with different emphases -- use search
engines to find them and look closely at who is doing what. I am in
Birmingham, so I'll point you at information about research here in
Cognitive Robotics, e.g.
http://www.cognitivesystems.org
CoSy Robotics project (completed, with draft book on line)
http://cogx.eu
EU CogX project
(Recently started robotics project led by Dr. Jeremy Wyatt, Birmingham)
We are currently advertising for a Post-doctoral researcher on
this project:
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/projects/cogx/rf09/advert.txt
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/go/irlab
Intelligent Robotics Lab
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/projects/cogaff/
Cognition and Affect Project (started 1991, no funds now
for students)
For applicants:

Some *unofficial* advice for potential students interested in
coming here, including pointers to admissions information.
[Some of the advice is relevant no matter where you are applying.]

Honorary professor of AI and Cognitive Science
(Not available as main supervisor -- officially retired)
