Indexing lasts very long...

Hi,
on a novell-server running Pervasive SQL 9.10.020 we observed, that
creating (internal) indixes of btrieve-files lasts very long.
First we assumed, that the requester sends the command to a local
installed local engine, but there is no local engine installed.
Further there is no process running local, that consumes CPT-time, so
now we guess, that the server engine on that novell-server is "sick".
Another strange thing is, that in the PPC there is no possibility to
access the servers configuration (connecting to it with
(novell-server-)admin rights is possible, the server is shown, but
only "databases": selecting the server the click to "configure local
engine" is ignored: nothing happens).

In the mikrokernal router, we have already disabled "use loacl engine"
(for shure, although there is no local engine running).

All other btrieve-things are running well as far as I see.

What could be wrong? OK, we should update to 9.52, and will do soon.
But maybe there is something other, that I can do, try, ...

Hi,
yesterday we finaly make the update, we installed SP2 and SP3 (now we
have Version 9.7). After doing so the indexing is about 400-600 times
faster!

One remark updating Perasive 9.1 to SP2/SP3 on novell-server:

for unknown reaseon some of the old pervasive componente are
wirite-protected on the (novell) server. This write-protection is made
by the orignal-pervasive-installation-routine (i.e. we dont made any
files writeprotected)
The installation of SP2 / SP3 runs without any problem, but the
writeprotected files are not replaced, so after the installation (that
goes seemingly OK) the server is not able to run pervasive: many
errors occur in the bootlog and pvsw.log.

The files that where write protected are

10.06.2005 07:10 271.727 bdu.nlm
10.06.2005 07:08 1.053.865 bdulb.nlm
10.06.2005 07:11 177.720 bdumsgrb.nlm
10.06.2005 06:52 176.171 cobolrb.nlm
10.06.2005 06:52 1.401.445 nwcobol.nlm
07.12.2004 16:42 185 nwpsonce.ini
20.04.2005 04:21 1.344.897 pscl2.nlm
20.04.2005 04:06 167.875 pscore2.nlm
20.04.2005 04:49 315.216 psdom.nlm
20.04.2005 04:48 2.294.316 pssax.nlm
10.06.2005 05:38 218.333 pvisr.nlm
10.02.2005 01:41 244 pvswcsys.ini
10.06.2005 06:46 7.939 pwaitvol.nlm

after deleting all of them and rerun the SP2/SP3-installations
pervasive is function!

Its a pitty that Pervasive dows not mention this difficultty in the
readme of SP2/SP3.
