Greetings Ed Tech Members,
Thanks Brenda for the list of Interactive Sites.
This would be a GREAT time for you to pitch an
interdisciplinary unit with art. This could be a low
technology lesson (traditional collage - combined with
Word text) or one that integrates a lot of technology
(Photoshop etc).
There is a Social Comment lesson plan on Incredible
Art Department by Sara Gant:
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/high/Sara-social.htm
This lesson is pretty open as far to materials to be
used.
There are some very good lessons at the bottom of this
page on Art with Text:
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/middle/art-text.htm
These lesson are from UIC Spiral Art Education
Curriculum - two of them use Barbara Kruger for
inspiration (your art specialist will be familiar with
her work). One lesson uses cut and paste collage
combined with printed text. The other one uses
Photoshop to layer the text over the images. The third
lesson could use the Power Of Persuasion Posters (link
on my site for that). Feel free to give my email
address to your art teacher. I would be happy to help
him/her with this lesson for middle school. I do have
links for images of American History and such on my
site, too. Students can use all of them for
educational purposes (a discussion on copyright could
be included).
I have another lesson on my site that combines figure
sculpture with social comment - but that one is very
time consuming (some of my students didn't get the
social comment part done)
I think it is time we ask kids what THEY want to learn
and what THEY want to think on important issues. Just
be careful you don't express you own personal views on
the topics. Allow kids to make up their own minds.
Regards,
Judy Decker
