Hi! My server doesn't show anything in this group but spam for close to
a year. Is there anyone here?

Thanks for responding. Smile Do you know if anyone else is reading the
group? I'm not familiar with adabas--is it still under active
development? Are there other places where it is discussed?

Kathy - If you're reading this in your web browser from Google or
similar forum, NNTP "newsreaders" are a better way to access the
content. <http://www.aptalaska.net/~kmorgan/how-it-works.html>

Adabas is a database system that is very much alive and well. It's the
flagship product of Software AG (http://www1.softwareag.com/us).
Most discussion of it takes place on the SAG-L mailing list
(http://www.uark.edu/sag-l/faq.html).

Adabas exists in at least two forms, one being a relational product (I
think that one is Adabas D) and the other being an inverted list
database. I believe that both are still owned by Software Ag (SAG) of
Darmstadt, Germany, although Adabas D was sold off and I think re-
acquired.

Natural is the associated programming language used on Adabas
databases although other languages can access the databases via direct
calls or Adabas SQL.

Both Natural and Adabas are available for individuals to use from the
www.softwareag.com web site (look for community editions).

SAG are expanding by purchasing other companies and have recently
acquired WebMethods, amongst other companies. This allows them to
provide a gui front end to replace the green-screen we are used to.
Sorry I can't recall the name of that one but it was available as a
freebie for individual use as well.
