use the ruler to make the line you want to align the image to
then use IMAGE>rotate arbitrary (it will show the degrees automatically)

Could you be more specific on how to use the ruler to make the reference
line? I spent half an hour on this yesterday - not getting anything that
would pre-set the arbitrary value in image-rotate.

Not sure how to make it more clear

select the ruler tool from the flyout (under dropper) not the ruler guides
from the margins

if you have say a crooked horizon or some wall that is slanted
draw your line with the ruler tool along that edge
then select image>> rotate>> the degrees needed to straighten will be there

another way is to open the RAW dialog and use straighten tool

Select the Ruler Tool and draw a line over the horizon (or over
something that should be vertical). Then choose 'Image - Image Rotation
- Arbitrary'. The angle is already filled in because of what you did
with the ruler tool, so you only have to hit the Enter key to get your
image straightened.

Don't seem to have the ruler tool. (Mac v. of CS3).

What you describe is exactly what I have been searching for ... no
cigar. Isn't there.

You should be able to find it by rt-clicking on the eye-drop tool.
