Come to Tarvisio, DNG Presentation Workshop from Oct. 26 - Oct. 30 2009
Dont miss the change to migrate from legacy Smalltalk ( VSE )
to DNG, the Next Generation of Smalltalk:
DNG-VM is the core ( still bytecode & primitive numbers compatible ) offers:
At least twice as fast execution of almost unmodified code.
Debuggable recursive calls
Unicode
fast Callbacks
binary Images/SLLs
Multithreading
that is the current state - & we will also explain
the vision of future versions - extensions to Smalltalk - security & more
we have extended the early booking date to the Oct 9th 2009
See you in Tarvisio

Frank,
Just a comment: since the list you publish your invitation is an
international one, could you please be more specific about the place?
I had to go to google maps to figure out where Tarvisio is!
Regards,

Does the D in DNG still mean Dolphin? The name seems to have disappeared
from your announcement and from the DNG web site.

Tante grazzie Aleš ;-)
Do you plan to web it so people living ten thousand kilometers far away
could participate?

[1] Glad my dad does not read this NG: he's from Rijeka (a.k.a. Fiume)
and would require I knew where Tarvisio is by heart |

Hi Peter,
yes the D stands for Dolphin,
and Dolphins superior Smalltalk framework is the base for DNG.
DNG round-0 is almost 99% compatible to Dolphin 6.
We are quite happy if we can run D6 entirely on the new VM.
Despite the new VM is much faster than Dolphins VM the D6 VM is a great
implementation & has a lot of nice features not present in other
Smalltalk VM implementations.
We call it DNG round 0 because we have a vision what willl be next after we
have reached the final version - DNG will be beta in Tarvisio & we strongly
believe that we will be able to declare it final until end of this year.

I would also like to encourage the DNG team to make materials about
their promising forthcomming product publicly available on the web.
