Oh and I'm curious... How many people are still running 5.x engines?
(Yeah I know that they are unsupported by IBM)
Wrong! 5.20 is still a) supported and b) sold. By the truckload.
correct. just today morning a friend of mine was asking
question about tbmode.
It is still an excellent RDBMS for small databases. The big
problem with it that it can't go beyond 106 GB something.
It has something to do with number of chunks limitation.
Even with shortest possible path for chunks, like /a or /b,
it can only take 54 chunks max.
You still purchase an extension to 7.x support though...so how is it
end of support? |

Ok,color me silly, but I have to ask...
7.x original Online code stream.
8.x XPS code stream
9.x Illustra code stream.
10.x Blending of 7 and 9
11.x further refinement of 10, adding a little snippet of stuff from 8.
So while 7 was the pure engine that could, are you implying that 11 isn't up to snuff when compared to 7?
Don't get me wrong, but there was a lot of noise about 10 being faster than 7.

Well, exactly that. It's no longer available for support under the standard
terms of a Passport Advantage or OEM contract.
IDS 10 goes "end of marketing" tomorrow, which means it goes End of Support
this time next year.
For that reason we are not allowed to sell it after today. |

Sorta - 7.x plus Illustra, yes.
Quote: 10.x Blending of 7 and 9
Nope - 10.x was further refinement of 9; there was essentially nothing to
blend from 7, though there probably were a few functions added that were
also added to 7.3x at about the same time.
